Finally: The Fly (1986) and The Fly II (1989) Special Editions are coming in Fall of 2005! - Page 17

It's not like this is some brand new film on DVD that was in theaters 3 months ago, so why try to attract casual buyers with a stupid critic's quote?

If anything, it's not the 3-month old films that need to attract casual buyers on the video shelves. 3-month old films are already recognizable to casual buyers. It's the older films that need to get an extra boost, such as an attractive critical quote.

Quote:
Who cares what some critic said about this thing 19 yrs ago?

The same people who care what a critic said 19 minutes ago. What does it matter how old the quote is? It's referring to a movie, not making a timely political joke. It doesn't say "This film is as scary as Dan Quayle is a bad speller." It's a broad opinion about a film, and it has no expiration date. If movie quotes are useful at all, then quotes from the reviews issued at the time of the film's release are some of the best.

It helps that the quote is true...

But, as I've said, it's really the content that matters, not the cover. And the bases seem loaded in that regard!

Well, I saw the FOX publicity people are providing an image of the black cover with the USA Today quote on their website. It's yet to be seen if it's a slip cover.

Any news on the Region 2 release date yet? Amazon.co.uk has the release pegged for August 15, earlier than the US.

August 15. is, however, the original US release date for 'The Fly' so maybe this is what it's referring to.

Agruably better than the R1 art work. At least it has the poster design on it (although my approval of that floating head shot of Martin is pending).

Hey, Jacob--are you sure that Region 2 Fly II cover isn't from one of the previous releases (both films were offered separately or as a double feature in other Regions from 2000 onward)?

I don't think its the special edition dvd for the fly 2.. just saying that it was a better dvd coverart.

Both films in the UK were in a Double Feature. Not available seperately, until recently, with obviously offers to people who just want the film and not the 2 disc set (Fox do this with all their 2 disc releases - many are the 1 disc from the 2 disc version, but some are their old counterparts (Die Hard 1 and 2 and it appears The Fly 1 and 2).

I will be picking up both the Fly 1 and Fly 2.... I can't wait and I am glad I waited to get them... I hope it is worth the wait..lol..

Can't wait....

I thought I'd seen some individual covers for both films in other Regions over the past few years. Hmm.

As I've stated, it always irked me that other Regions got the fintage featurettes and soundbites, but not Region 1. At least the SEs wil have the featurettes (the Fly I soundbites don't look to be included, though).

An up-date on the FOX retail site shows more images of the black slip case/white cover I mentioned earlier. There are now bilingual versions for Canada posted there. I can't link to the images as it is a password protected site, but you can check them out by signing up at foxretail.com (you do not need to be a retailer to sign up).
Good to hear that both cover designs will be included.
Well, I checked my order at amazon.com, and it does appear that the one-week delay is correct. Both releases will be out Oct. 4th.

But still, I can't believe this is happening. It's very odd thinking about it. This release is actually happening. And it's gonna have everything a Fly fan could ask for!

My pal Chris Foster informs me that, according to amazon.co.uk, it seems The Fly will be released on DVD in Region 2 on Aug. 15 (coincidentally, the anniversary of the film's US theatrical release), but it will apparently be a bare-bones disc (with the movie, trailer, and featurette).

So it looks like Region 2 won't be getting the SE for some time (or at all?).

It does seem strange that fox would release a movie only of the fly (region 2 UK) so close to release of the special edition for region 1. most of the time fox releases stuff in region 2 a few months after the region 1 release. I would keep an eye out on www.dvdanswers.com, www.dvdtimes.co.uk for info when the times comes out that.

Looks to be a re-release of the previous soundtracks. Kind of a shame. I'd rather have the cues in film order, and have the few cues that weren't released originally added in.
