Re: Genesis on SACD soon

Well, sure. BMG wouldn't be carrying the sets that aren't even released yet.

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

ok, heres were you lost me and i didnt know what set you were telling us is at bmg.

the post right before you first mentioned bmg and a bunch of posts right before that mentioned the newest sets coming out in the fall.

then your post...
"FYI: The standard US 2-disc sets have showed up at BMG. With the 2/3 off + free shipping deals they often run, you're looking at all five sets for under $35 total.'

so i thought you were telling that the new sets were now up for order at bmg.

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

I just got "We Can't Dance" and "Invisible Touch" yesterday..."Genesis" is still on back order. I listen to some of both of these discs last night and like last time, they sound great with "WCD" sounding a bit better than "IT" perhaps due to the fact that it was released 6 years later. To these ears, synth and electronic drum-heavy songs like "No Son of Mine", "Tonight, Tonight", "I Can't Dance" and "Domino" sounded best in the SACD format. Not sure why I hadn't noticed this on the other releases but I had NO CLUE that the entire album is also on the DVD disc in 24/96 surround (which displays as "DTS-ES Discrete 6.1" on my Rotel pre/pro) and boy does it sound good. "I Can't Dance" had my subs thumping LOUDLY which brought a smile to my face. "Tonight, Tonight" created a dome of sound above my head with tiny sound details abound. WOW, I was a very happy camper last night! Really looking forward to hearing "Home By The Sea" off of "Genesis" in DTS 24/96...that is gonna be a treat!!!

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

I got the box set this week from HMV, The B-side bonus disc is also pretty good, including the ones from the Calling All Stations era.

As long as you can play PAL DVDs, I'd say definitely...

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

I think it was a pricing mistake, now $25.99 + $179 "sourcing fee"

I ordered anyway, when it was $25.99 let's see if they ship (or let me cancel if it was $205)

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

I ordered it at the low price and, as of 9pm Eastern Time (about 6 or 7 hours after I ordered it), my order status page does NOT include the "sourcing fee". I've made pdf copies of the web page at the time I placed my order and I have my auto-confirm email as well. If they do not honour the price, I intend to fight it (a little--I won't waste too much effort on it).

link is dead

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

yea they took it down a few hours ago

do a search for the ASIN "B000T4F0I4" - theres a product but not a link, and the price is up to $199
post #376 of 415

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

If they were based in Quebec, they would be required by law to honour the low price for every sale made before the error was discovered and corrected. If they attempted to renege on the sale at that price, they would face rather severe penalties.

I still show the low price on my order status sheet. But they list late Nov/early Dec as the shipping window, so they have plenty of time to "change their minds".

Thankfully I have full PAL capability (if I do get these) as my projector will display PAL and my DVD player can send out a native PAL signal (and it is region free, if that's at all applicable).

Edit: I just looked again and while the order status sheet lists my price as 25.99$, the name of the item is no longer a "hotlink" to the web page with all the details (unlike some other items I have awaiting shipment in a different order). Hmmm

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

on AVS forum they are saying that Amazon usually honours the mistaken price.

on stevehoffman.tv they are saying that if Amazon don't, our ears would be thankful (the discs sound that bad! perhaps $25.99 wasn't such a steal)

If the sound is no worse than the Platinum Edition 3 disc set (which I bought when it came out in 2005--the tracks that had already been remixed, at that time, were released in their remixed form on the collection. It's why I bought it.), then the "critics" are hyperventilating for nothing. The Platinum Edition is certainly not a reference disc in my collection, but it is far from the sonic hell some people are making these out to be. I have looked high and low to find someone who has both the Platinum Edition and the box sets and has compared them (it would have to be the CDs--but it would be some sort of rough indication, at least) but NO ONE appears to have done so. And really, at 26 bucks, can it really be anything but a bargain (just for the video material alone)?

I checked the product they now have available as an SACD import and it has a different AISN number and is, actually, a different product as the DVDs are NTSC, not PAL, according to the product description.

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

I thhink there are two different products - one with PAL DVDs and the other set with NTSC DVDs

I think the SACD's are only available with PAL DVD's and the NTSC DVD's only come in a CD/DVD-V box set.

No, there are outlets (including the official Genesis website) that will sell you the SACD/CD hybrids with an NTSC set of DVDs. That is what is currently listed at Amazon (in lieu of the excessively discounted, and now disappeared, PAL set) for about 200$. The non SACD set lists at Amazon for about half that much.

There is a version of the box that has SACDs and NTSC dvds. I have the 1st box set in this format, and have also seen it as well for the new set. You have to look around (online) for this version.

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

looks like you know were to look already.
can you let us in on the right places so it doesnt have to be a scavenger hunt.

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

I believe HMV Japan is one location, as is the official Genesis website. PAL is not a problem for me, so I will be going through Amazon.fr (France) as that is the least expensive place I've seen them (other than this "mistake").

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

Got Genesis "Genesis" Friday and I have to say that I'm really enjoying the surround mixes. "Home By The Sea" really lends itself well to surround, especially the way it's mixed with a lot of ambient sounds floating above your head in the soundfield. Good stuff!!!
