Indication of upcoming release of 3 Genesis SACD??

BTW, according to Nick Davis, "Duke" is done and work begins on "Abacab" next Monday.

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

Has anyone heard any updates on these releases? I mean, they're slowly moving into Pink Floyd and Beatles style purgatory/oblivion, you know?

On May 23rd, Nick Davis posted the following on the official Genesis website's forum....

Quote:
nearly finished invisible touch- doing a few recalls on the old mixes- land of confusion (hardly any surround on this one?) and tonight, tonight...
done all the 'b'sides.

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

Any news of late regarding Genesis SACDs? This is one of the few bands I will gladly pay extra to get this feature.

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

Wow, have to admit I'm a bit surprised they're even doing CAS.

I hope the box set rumor is true. It will be expensive, but worth every penny.

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

On the official Genesis website's forum, Nick Davis posted on September 26 that the surround mix will likely appear on regular DVD with dts and Dolby Digital and that he still hopes SACD will still be released.

Today, Nick Davis posted the following....

Quote:
dts would be 96/24.
i haven't given up hope of sacd- but i just have to wait and see.

Anyone up for a Genesis SACD petition?

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

Lossy multichannel Genesis? I don't know about that. Maybe better than nothing though.

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

If they do that, it will likely be decent with 96/24 DTS (Peter Gabriel's Play--collection of music videos is in that format and it's quite good) and, at some future date, it will be easy enough to release in Dolby True HD or the DTS equivalent.

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

I bought the entire set of Bjork's DualDiscs with 96Khz/24-Bit DTS. I have only opened "Post" so far but think it sounds fine. It has usually worked out acceptably for me when I have decided to accept DD or DTS 5.1 when neither SACD or DVD-A is released. Maybe it is just my 54 year old hearing or less than audiophile equipment, but the lossy formats done well sound good enough for me to be happy. I still prefer SACD or DVD-A but I sure don't require it, especially since there are not going to be many releases in either SACD or DVD-A that interests me.

I believe all of Genesis' studio albums, except for their debut, have been remastered and remixed for 5.1 surround sound. Initially, "Lamb" was announced to be released on SACD, but it, along with the rest of the catalog, was postponed indefinitely. Still, the albums continued to be worked on by Nick Davis. With the pending reunion tour and an official announcement on November 7th, it's possible the band will tour in support of these 5.1 releases. Of course, Genesis' albums will not be released on SACD in the US.

Ok, maybe I haven't been following this too closely. Why won't they be released in the US?

In the US, Genesis is signed to Atlantic Records, part of the Warner Music Group. Warner Music is a proponent of the DVD-A format, a rival to SACD. However, DVD-A releases from Warner Music have been spotty, although the Talking Heads and the Doors have had recent DVD-A releases. Outside of the US, Genesis is signed to, I believe, a Universal Music-affliated label. If hi-rez versions are to be released for Genesis' catalog, it's more likely to be on SACD.

This same situation also happened to Dire Straits, Mark Knopfler, and Bjork. I believe Depeche Mode had the same issue as well. If Phil Collins ever decides to release his solo albums on hi-rez, he will be affected as well.

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

Just got this from www.genesis-fanclub.de wich has contacts with Nick Davies:

The band's prducer Nick Davis confirmed today that the 51. Releases will be released in three blocks and that the etras will also be released. Nick does not want to go into detail before 7th November. Now it seems highly likely that the Reunion-Tour 2007 will (also) be used for promoting the 5.1 Releases!

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

I hope this is true.

But what is going through the back of my mind is, wouldn't it have been really great to have had all this when SACD and DVD-A were first trying to get off the ground?

Don't get me wrong, 5.1 SACDs of Genesis's material will be great for all of us Genesis fans. But if this had happened a while ago, it would have potentially helped the format in general. Oh well...

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

Don't bet the farm on hi-res versions yet. It's quite possible they may only be in DD or DTS (if the latter, then I hope at least 96/24).

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

I too was late to this party...

While I'd much rather have DVD-A or SACD (which doesn't sound like it'll happen in the US), DTS 24/96 doesn't sound all that bad. It's just that I'm not a big fan of multichannel music. Yep, plain old stereo for me.

Wow, I haven't heard some of these titles in years. I'm somewhat embarrassed to say that I can't wait to hear "Invisible Touch" again...guilty pleasure from my youth.

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

Any word yet on whether there will be US domestic editions of these? I'd prefer SACD with both stereo and multichannel mixes, but I'd settle for DTS.

Also, has there been any mention of whether these will be available in boxed sets?

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

I don't care what they release here. I'll gladly pony up more cash to get the European SACDs.

Yes, there will be a tour. While unofficial as of this post, the venues rumored for the tour will make this a massive world tour (we're talking about stadiums, not arenas). So far, the dates and venues mentioned are for Europe only; no North American (or anywhere else) dates mentioned yet.

If this reunion tour is one way to promote the hi-rez reissues, then the possibly of Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett joining the 3-some in 2008 is likely. In recent interviews, PG has hinted that while he will not be taking part in the tour for 2007, he will be open for dates after 2007. Again, if the above release schedule for the hi-rez reissues holds, then shows with PG and SH will coincide with the release of the PG-era reissues.

Re: Genesis on SACD soon

Quick update before the official press conference....

Nick Davis posted the following at the Genesis forum a couple of hours ago when asked whether there will be a separate CD only version of the reissues....

Quote:
the sacd release will play on a cd player (in stereo)

Pretty much confirms that the reissues will be released on SACD (at least in Europe).

Still waiting for press conference....
