WONDER WOMAN - Latest News: Joss Whedon has left the project - Page 9

Patrick Stewart was an unknown?

You're right - Stewart's name didn't really belong in that list...

(Although, one could make the argument that, outside of his Star Trek work, he's not exactly the most popular or mainstream of actors. I mean... outside of Star Trek & X-Men, what mainstream stuff has he done in the past 2 decades? Dune doesn't count... )

Oh - I'm sorta on the fence with the Wonder Woman teaser poster. I like the profile & bust shot (), but the tagline "Experience the Wonder" is just cringe inducing... sounds too cheezy & unimaginative. C'mon marketing guys, earn those paychecks!

Moe.

Thats Adam Hughes artwork.

I'd like to see Catherine Zeta-Jones in the role. Va-va-voom!

given what i am hearing about both Superman Returns and X3, Wonder Woman is currently the only project i'm looking forward to.

which may even be worse as i could be setting myself up for a big let down.
but as i said before, i believe there is enormous potential for a very interesting storyline with this character.
we'll see

Just found another nice pic of my current choice for WW:

Joss made a hint hint at a possible WW. One of the stars of his show and upcoming movie Firefly...Morena Baccarin. Never even thought of her. She would work perfectly. And she is only 25. So they have plenty of time for sequels.

Plus she has the DC hero connection. Does the voice of Black Canary for the Justice League cartoon.
She's the latino version of Ashley Judd (they have the same type of nose).
How did he hint about her?

Shee looks a bit young. Shes 25 but Ive seen pics of her and she could be 17.
He 'hinted' about it during an interview at a con. I wouldn't take those kind of hints very seriously.

I say Catherine Bell.

When pressed for details on the iconic Wonder Woman accessories, Whedon acknowledged several, but avoided mention of the invisible jet that was phased out of the comic books years ago. "I have a take on all of them. It has to do with who she is, and they have a certain integrity. I'm not going to do anything silly.

"There's a reason why she has those bracelets," Whedon said, referring to the Amazon wrist armor that represents her tribe's enslavement under Hercules. "There's a reason why she's got the lasso. I think it's going to work out really well."

i find that last paragraph particularly intriguing.
none of the previous live action features (the Cathy Lee Crosby or Lynda Carter movies) really got into the Amazon mythology.
i think that, and the conflict with the outside (man's) world provide a hell of a lot of potential for material we haven't seen done to death yet (in comparision, both spidey movies, and Hulk to an extent, have used the 'doctor tampering with things he shouldn't' paradigm)

i'm not familiar with Morena B.'s work, but there was a clip of her and Whedon at some con and just from the way she photographed, her personality displayed, etc i wouldn't mind seeing her- she looks just exotic enough to not be distracting..not to mention cute as hell (that pic doesn't do her justice, imo)

What most impressed me about her on Firefly was that she was able to convincingly project an aura of power and influence without actually flaunting it, which I think is a great quality for someone playing WW to have (or any superhero, actually). I was surprised when I heard she was under 25 because that's a quality that I tend to associate only with more mature actors.

I'm hoping that Whedon will work from the modern premise regarding her lack of a secret identity. One of the things that has always intrigued me most about Wonder Woman in recent years is the fact she lives a balance between a superhero life and a "normal" one. She's personable, approachable; she seems to prefer people call her Diana, even when she's in costume.

Morena would be amazing. She's a wonderful actress, and can definitely play the role. I'm really looking forward to this one.
Definitely for Catherine Bell!

Dayum!

I'll add my vote to the Morena column. As I get deeper and deeper into Firefly (just bought the set a few months back), my appreciation for her as an actress is growing by leaps and bounds.

Here is someone who is not a household name in the US. But, is known as the Queen of Bollywood and is huge in India. Also, has done some western movies. It would be a big gamble. But, if Joss is looking for an exotic beauty..

Her name is Aishwarya Rai and is 32.

Or they can go for someone in the Warner Brothers payroll....Erica Durance from Smallville. Picture from an upcoming Smallville episode:

Thanks to www.kryptonsite.com for the image (A great Smallville site)

How about Cobie Smulders, a new starlet who is on this season's "How I Met Your Mother" on CBS?

She's 5'9" and 23 years old. She was also on "Veritas" from 2 season ago.

My short list of "established" actress is now down to Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron (after seeing her as Aeon Flux in the trailer, she could pull off the brunette look, plus the action sequences, but I doubt she'd want to do more action films after almost breaking her neck on Aeon Flux).
Erican Durance does not look the part at all. Just because you look good in a two piece doesnt mean you can be Wonder Woman.
I vote for Morena.
I say either Morena or that Aishwarya Rai (I still don't know how to pronounce that)
Maybe Jennifer Connelly but that's a strech.
I'd be utterly flabbergasted if they pick an A or even B list actress for this. One thing that seems pretty clear about "genre" films is the studios refuse to load up the cast payroll. They'll probably pick an unknown or a C-list actress and sign to a 1+2 deal.

Morena would be a good WW though, and she'd qualify payroll-wise.

It was more of a joke. Although, she still looks damn good.
Catherine Bell is hot, no doubt, but she is getting close to 40. So that's not going to happen.
I don't know how I'd feel if they picked Charlize or Angelina while they are both alright actresses I just feel they're too known for the role. Where as Morena or Aishwarya Rai aren't really as known. I think about five years ago Charisma Carpenter would've been fine for the role (she's still fine but that's a whole different topic) but now, eh I don't know.
Joss may go for a complete unknown altogether.

Just as long as it's not Sarah Michelle Gellar I'll be fine.
I just feel there needs to be some physicality to whoever ends up being cast as WW, and I just don't see it with Morena or Aishwarya.

Gabby Reece would have the look of WW down (height and body build), but I doubt if she'd be a good enough actress, plus, she's now in her mid-30's.
Anne Hathaway is like 23 and has the looks for the part.

Jessica Biel would be another likely choice. She has the right height/age and looked pretty tough in Blade Trinity.

Personally though I don't see a Wonder Woman movie being that successful.
Let me just throw out my vote for Charisma Carpenter. She would put the woman in Wonder Woman! No more chicks with bodies like pre-pubecent boys, please!
I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment, but Carpenter unfortunately isn't a very good actress.

I doubt she has much to offer beyond her merely adequate to decent performance in Buffy and Angel.
