DVD pause

why is it that every movie I watch, about 1/2 way through or so, there is a "blip" in the movie or a brief pause. last movie I saw was from netflix - the bourne identity - and at this quick pause, the movie actually stopped and would not play past it

A Half-Second pause is perfectly normal, it's due to the movie being on 2 layers of the disk and the laser has to reset itself to read the other one. All Type-9 DVDs do this. However, if it completely stops there, then there is a problem.

he's letting us know that he's using a Panasonic RP-82 dvd player hooked up to a Hitachi 65SWX20B television.
