What do those little silica packets do? - Page 4

They will only suck the moisture from the snow. You'll have to use dry ice to finish the job.

we now know another thing about silcica packets - a thread on them will suck puns out of our brains
post #95 of 770
You can then use silica to dry the bunnies fur.

Maybe if we heat up the silica in the oven first, so that it's nice 'n toasty? and THEN throw it on the driveway?

Hot Silica Packets! Getcher Hot Silica Packets right here!

Do you think Uncle Owen used silica packs to run his moisture evaporators in Star Wars?

I can't be sure, but I think it would cause a major paradox which would unravel the space time continuoum and destroy the universe.

Remember, they "Absorb", not "suck"

Does this thread qualify for the most ridiculuous thread award? If not, it should be in the top 10.

It is a lot of fun though.
They sell Silica pills? Maybe that's for people who are havin' trouble retaining water?

Or maybe they ate too much salsa?

I was recently reading a thread over at dpreview.com talking about the underwater case (to be used while diving)for the Canon S30/45/50 digital cameras.

One of the users had a problem with having the screen/lens fogging up when diving/snokerling. Another user said that he had the same problem, put one of the silica packets in the casing with the camera and the fogging went away.

Cool stuff Dave.

Of course, if the silica lets loose with a blast of salsa, it might look like the underwater camera guy just met the business end of a shark.
What if the lens were to crack? The silica pack could potentially dry up the ocean. That would however be a permanent solution to the fogging issue. Oh no it's started again......................................

I'm picturing the Simpsons episode with the Burly Towels

If only the Titanic were carrying Burly Towels and Silica packets...everyone would be safe.

Burly towels AND silica packets? Madness I say! Madness! Why, everyone would have been a dry husk! No moisture anywhere!

...except for the salsa, of course...

Hmmm... I just got a few packets with my latest equipment. What to do, what to do. Any fun suggestions?

(Hmm... I'm not far from the city resevoir...)
It's back. Now we have two to threads to talk about silica on the same page.
Silica is such a lovely condoment. Only if they would make somthing to absorb all the excess moisture I have around the house.
Sweet, just in time for my football snacking season... but I wonder what Silica does?

Did you know that Silica is now the third most requested condiment?
