Unfortunately the days of inserts seem to be over. Not sure why except possibly cutting costs?

The security tape to seal the edges on Warner snappers never gave me any trouble. In fact, I wish all studios would use a similar tape.

Yes, the device was hidden on the back side of the trays. I found that out one day years ago curious as to how those cases were put together. Pet peeve or paranoia... I always remove the devices. May be a homing device for Big Brother

And why waste the paper for chapter listings when a push or two of your remote menu brings the same thing up on your screen? Now the "Production Notes" kind of inserts Columbia/Tri-Star regularly included, those I miss...

Packaging gripes, though I never hated snappers:

Inserts: no money for them, but the same outfits have $$ for thick advertising inserts. I know, different budget...

Shrinkwrap: what's with the newest WB and affiliates' SW? This stuff doesn't come off the rear edge of the amarays, it's like it's glued on...

Tape: similar to above but not quite as bad...doesn't come off as easily as it used to, or does for most other studios. Leaves sticky remnants behind.

Snappers: oh man, if only we knew how bad cheap DVD packaging could get. Discs stacked right on top of each other on the same hub. Discs partially overlapping, so you have to take out more than the disc you want and do a little juggle. Plastic trays that separate from the cardboard "just sitting there". Plastic trays with hubs with the grip of death. etc. etc.

Never had a snapper that was difficult to get to the disc when brand new. Only had one (of very many) that arrived with a loose disc, but the nature of the package means *the disc didn't get scratched*...so not a big deal.

Be careful what you wish for.

This resurrection of the snapper debate got me to remember all those years ago when I bought my first snapper-case DVD. It was Ladyhawke, and I remember after I tore off the shrink-wrap I couldn't figure out how to open it. I kept turning it around in my hands and gently tugging at the edges. I was afraid to pull on anything too hard for fear of breaking it.

Being the heavy handed dickhead I am, I have torn a couple of my Fox Noir plastic cases trying to get the security tape off.
