June 17, 2005 - NBC and Universal announced today that the first trailer for Peter Jackson's King Kong will debut simultaneously on all nine of the NBC Universal conglomerate's TV networks.

The two-minute, 30-second teaser is scheduled to air on Monday, June 27, from precisely 8:59:30-9:02 PM ET. Here's the network breakdown for your TiVo programming needs...

NBC - Immediately following Fear Factor

USA Network - Immediately following Law & Order: SVU

SCI FI Channel - Immediately following Stargate-SG1

Bravo - Immediately following West Wing

Universal HD - Immediately following Airport '77

MSNBC - Immediately following Countdown with Keith Olberman

CNBC - Immediately following Cover to Cover

Telemundo - Immediately following La Mujer en el Espejo

Mun2 - During the two-hour block of The Roof

In the announcement, Universal Pictures Chairman Stacey Snider gushed about the film, "'King Kong, as it's being interpreted by Peter Jackson, is the work of a master storyteller operating at the full height of his creative powers. We are immensely excited to allow the world its first glimpse of this extraordinary film and its remarkable central character with an event that is as ambitious and momentous as King Kong deserves. This roadblock demonstrates just how coordinated and unified a company NBC Universal has become in just over a year, and we are proud of our shared commitment to accomplishing something of this magnitude."

Also on June 27th, the Kong teaser will debut online (on the Volkswagen website, oddly enough) and on various personal wireless devices. It'll also be shown in various high-profile locations around the world like the Times Square Jumbotron and giant screens in Universal's theme parks. The preview hits the big screen on June 29th. Next they'll be beaming previews directly into your brain.

Kong, which retells the classic story of the great ape captured on a remote exotic isle and brought to '30s New York, stars Naomi Watts, Jack Black, Thomas Kretschmann, Colin Hanks, Andy Serkis, Jamie Bell and Adrien Brody. The film hits theaters around the world on December 14.

Um, did you read Oscar's post right above yours? (Actually, did you cut-and-paste from it?)

Holy shit! I just saw Peter Jackson talking about SW on the AFI Tribute to George Lucas special and he looks like he shed a whole other person. He's barely recognizable. Maybe I should've kept up with the King Kong video diaries since I nearly had a heart attack!

Yeah, man. Jackson looks like a COMPLETELY different person! What the hell happened to him anyway?

He's dying...

Is this going to be called "Peter Jackson's King Kong"? I know the tie-in video games are called that. If that's the case, I say it's terrible narcissism and pretension.

YEAH! Who does that kiwi think he is anyway....John Carpenter?

Either that, or an attempt by New Line marketeers to announce to prospective viewers that A) This is a different film than the 1933 original and B) It was directed by the man who brought you The Lord of the Rings.

I feel like I've been waiting forever for this trailer. Not much longer now...

As Jefferson said, *if* that is the case it almost certainly something done on the part of Universal marketing folks. I've never seen anything at all to indicate PJ being at all narcissistic or pretenious and, indeed, he generally seems completely the opposite.

Yes, he could play Derek again!

And as for "Peter Jackson's King Kong..." it has to be PR to distinguish it from the others... it's HIS take on this story. Not worth getting upset about in my opinion.

I also feel like others... I'll go see it, but right now the excitement really isn't there... now Romero's new flick...

Whoah, saw a quick teaser for the trailer on NBC. T-rex and Kong make a Naomi Watts sandwich!

Sometimes anticipating the trailer is just as much fun as waiting for the full feature.

I'm pretty sure Oscar and I posted very close to each other in time, but there's always the possibility I overlooked it.

And I quoted from kongisking.net, as indicated in my post and by the difference in content.

www.kongisking.net now has the aforementioned teaser of the trailer up. Ridiculously quick, but tantalizing.

Well, I can tell you one thing. I still won't be watching "Fear Factor". You'd have a hard time making me watch that at gunpoint. I'll wait for the trailer to hit the internet.

The trailer announcement said that it's going to air at the very end, so there's no need anyways.

That 2 second teaser wets the appetite nicely.

If you haven't yet, I recommend viewing the production diaries at kongisking.net - there is over 3 hours of material to watch!
There will be no need to watch Fear Factor or TV at all for that matter, because the trailer will first be up online 15 minutes before it's on TV on volkswagen.com.
I'll be watching the trailer in Hi-Def on Universal HD.

Return of the King! ....That's so beautiful!

Not so sure I like that grumpy old poop-butt look they seem to have been shooting for with Kong..
