Nope.

Although I'm spending a fair amount of time this morning mulling over the cosmic implications of DVDs that are "beloved" and those that are "lesser beloved"!

Yes, it's like Sophie's Choice! But when you have to do it, you do it!

Re: DVD Thinpak and other Slim Cases

Does anyone out there have any of the slim 8, 10 or 12 disc cases you're not using and would be interested in doing some swapping?

I have plenty of the 3,4,5,6 and up variety but I need at least one 8 disc case and maybe a couple of the others, but I don't want to have to order ten of each one to get them.

Re: DVD Thinpak and other Slim Cases

This thread should be kept alive given the interest of people converting to thin packs.

Speaking of, I'm thinking of starting to convert some of mine. Does anyone have covers for the fox film noir titles?

Re: DVD Thinpak and other Slim Cases

I've converted all my snapper packs (Warners original packaging) to clear slimline cases. I take the snapper apart, and make a color copy on my little HP printer, 2-sided, and scanned down to fit one 8 1/2 x 11 sheet. Then I have to trim this a little bit. Voila! Instant slimline, no online art needed.

Something to keep in mind if you are doing your own scan is that you can do a slight squeeze of the spine section of the cover. This both accomodates the smaller paper size for the cover and, in some instances, makes for a better spine prsentation.

I did most of my snapper conversions this way. Except...darn it, I've picked up a few "new" snappers in recent months and have to do a few more! Damn Dolores Claiborne anyway!

Re: DVD Thinpak and other Slim Cases

I would like to use thin cases to repackage some box sets but I don't like the way a lot of them allow the disc to touch the bottom of the case since this can lead to scratched discs. Does anyone know if there is a thin case like ThinPAK that has a raised hub or, better yet, a raised hub and a rim around the perimeter of the disc area that the edge of the disc rests on to prevent it from touching the bottom of the case like there is in most standard cases. The "Mexico Trilogy" is packaged in thin cases that have hubs that lift the disc off of the case, but I don't know who makes these. Also I like the hubs on those cases better than the ThinPAKs' hubs; they are cut in the triangles pointing toward the center so one can push the center to release the disc. Thanks.

I'm not completely going over to slims, but I was thinking of converting my Matrix discs to slims. Tips? Or has anyone done these already and has usable cover art? Please PM me.

Re: DVD Thinpak and other Slim Cases

So have you done it yet? What are you people going to do with your HD-DVDs and BDs? Because using slim covers wouldn't be shrinking but enlarging!

As for me, nothing is going to get bigger! I just bought slim CD covers that are made of the same material as DVD covers. I will use them to shrink my HD collection.

I'm very unhappy with the WB change to thin cases.

Praytell, why, Jeff?

I think it's terrific. Keeps me from having to go out and slim 'em down myself. Maybe soon I won't have to buy any more slim cases!

Re: DVD Thinpak and other Slim Cases

I missed something... is he referring to WB starting to use slim cases for TV sets, or for something else?

Re: DVD Thinpak and other Slim Cases

EXAMPLE:

The separately available "The Maltese Falcon" just released. There's no reason to use thin cases on this release IMO.

WB is now starting to use ThinPaks in its movie collections. The Bogart Signature Coll. Vol. 2 and the Astaire & Rogers Ultimate Collection released this week...both the 10-movie package and the five-movie Vol. 2. In the Bogart set The Maltese Falcom SE--also released separately--comes in two ThinPaks encased in a cardboard sleeve.

But, why not? As I said before, I'm liking it. Would you have preferred standard Amarays or digipaks? And why?

Robert Crawford is always begging the question of why does the packaging seem to be more important to people rather than the movie itself? For me, the thinner the packaging means the more titles I can fit on my shelves...plain & simple. I am starting to reach critical mass with my shelving unit again forcing me to make some tough decisions.

Yes, a double keepcase! Why? Because I simply don't like thin cases (Mainly as I can't read the spine printing well). I don't like digipaks either. I have no storage issues. If packaging was not important in the scheme of things then the Studios would sell the DVDs in a plain white paper sleeve. Content is important, but so is packaging to me. And apparently to other people. Why else would there be Internet sites that deal with custom Cover Art?

I spend a lot of time on the cover art places for ThinPaks covers as well as other shelf reducing cover art.

Warner is also using slim cases for rental copies in the UK. They've been doing it since the summer.

Just making it clear.

The Astaire/Rogers Collection #2 does NOT come in ThinPaks.

I too am someone that ran out of room long ago. I put all of my old Snappers into ThinPaks, and I simply made a two-sided color xerox of the cover art, which I trimmed and slipped into the sleeve of the ThinPak.

I converted over 400 snappers.

Re: DVD Thinpak and other Slim Cases

Dee: Thanks for the clarification. Amazon.com made it a bit confusing with their "partial" ultimate set which included the films for Volume 2 in thinpaks...and then the empty ThinPaks for people to transfer the discs to have 'em all the same way.

Dee: I'm always curious about this. What have you done with all your original cases and artwork? Storage?

Anyone seen Cars artwork incorporating the Wal-mart & Target discs?

I saved all of my WB cases (because of the art), but with the blank cases, I sold them at my parents tag sale.

Originally I had like 10 for $1, but then I sold a few box fulls for like $10. Of the 400-500 I had, I probably made about $20-$30.

Re: DVD Thinpak and other Slim Cases

So I've finally bit the bullet and started converting my Snappers to Thinpaks. My first project was the Matrix films, for which Mike Frezon (thank you very much) provided me with covers for the first film and the Animatrix. I created my own covers for Reloaded and Revolutions, and then began converting my Snappers. I've done about 5 or 6 six so far and can't believe the space I'm saving (The Matrix DVDs fit into my carboard slipcase for The Matrix and The Matrix Revisited). The idea is really growing on me, and I'm getting better at editing the covers as I go.

You are very welcome. Although now I think I'm going to copyright jail or something...

It's like eating peanuts, Stephen! And as I said several posts ago...I've got to get back into the swing of snapper conversion myself! I probably have a dozen (give or take) to do. Somehow, I keep accumulating new snappers. Picked up the Vincent Price House of Wax a coupla weeks ago! When I get this batch done, I'm going to have to promise myself--NO MORE!

And, I'm starting to reach the point of critical mass on my shelving unit! It's time for me to face the fact that I'm going to have to slim down all my Disney animated features and volumes of Disney Treasures. I don't know why I have been putting them off...especially since I know that of all the films I own...those are probably the least likely of any to ever be sold or traded.

What will I do then?! Must...stop...er, slow down....collecting!

Hey, an update. Since that pic was taken in March 2006 my movie collection has forced my binder count up a bit. That pic had seven binders (UniKeep 1.5" binders, 80 disc) for the movies, but I am now using ten, divided as follows:

A-B / C-D / E-G / H-K / L-M / N-O / P-R / S-S / T-V / W-Z

Theoretically ten binders could mean I have 800 movies but I do not, I have about 500 plus some room to spare in each.

So basically at $20 a binder, expansion cost me about $60 this year, and used up another 4 1/2 inches of shelf space. I'm still satisfied with it.

Re: DVD Thinpak and other Slim Cases

The hand model is back!

Will: Very cool. I could see myself heading in the binder direction sometime. I might just have to...unless I move my direction completely out of the main living area and into the basement...or I get my own dedicated HT space someday.

Re: DVD Thinpak and other Slim Cases

Next project: The Pink Panther Collection. Anyone done this one yet? I want to incorporate The Return of the Pink Panther into the set and have somewhat unified cover art, and since the Collection doesn't come with any cover art to speak of, would appreciate if anyone has clean cover scans of the art on the single disc releases. Please PM me if you can help.

Just received slim doubles from shop4tech.com, about $18 for 50 & free ship.

But unlike the website photo, these are interlocking hubs. I don't love the 'clip' style spokes though (my photo, 26k):

Re: DVD Thinpak and other Slim Cases

I'm thinking of converting all of my single disc releases over to thinpaks. I know of a site to get them for a great price. From GenesysDTP.com or .net 100 thins for only $17.99. Can anybody tell me how to convert them? I have a scanner.
