Michael,

I picked up a 6-pack of thinpaks at Wal-mart the other day to try them out. I'll see if I can post a picture of them today. I have some custom covers that I printed and some that I just trimmed off the sides to fit.

When my order of 130 thinpaks gets here and I have a lot converted, I'll post pics of that too. But I don't anticipate getting that project done for a few weeks.

If these are the same cases that my Bjork Volumen disk came in then count me in as one who likes them. They are sleek and hard plastic. Bring em on.

I got my clear Double ThinPaks tonight.

The first disk I tried was The Ten Commandments. Instead of cutting at all, I folded the outer art almost in half, but left the title/spine unfolded. This I put in the pouch, and when the pouch is folded, the title shows right at the spine.

Then I took the insert, which has a duplicate of the cover art! and put it in the front pouch, cover facing out, chapters facing in. Voila! No cutting, instant space savings of more than 50%.

Next, I did From Here to Eternity. This is the only disk I have purchased twice, first with extras, then with superbit, no extras. I have put both disks, and folded-up art in a Double ThinPak. Voila! More than 50% saved from the two separate disks. No cutting.

I'm on a roll, now.

On a related note, does anyone know anything about an Amaray product called a "slim triple"? Reportedly the width of a regular Amaray, but with room for 3 discs? It is rumored to exist but I haven't found anything like it, and the folks over at dvdcoverart.com are theorizing that perhaps it is a hybrid creation made by customers who take a double Amaray and add a "Add a Page" to it. But no one seems to know for sure.

I got it with the new bttf triology r4 set...
It IS like a "slim double", where the page can hold a dvd on each side. i would take a picture if i had a digicam, but unfortunately that isnt the situation...

They were in the neighborhood of $3.50. Walmart has such weird "cents" I can't remember exactly what it was. Something like $3.48 or maybe $3.84.

Here are some pics of the thinpaks. The THX, Kenwood, and DVD Demysitified ones are custom covers sized for thinpaks. The other ones (CES DVD and Fox Demo Discs 2 & 3) are the normal covers that I trimmed on the sides to fit.

Andrea thanks for the walmart tip, they are $3.84 for 6. Not a good per piece price, but worth it for instantly satisfied HTFer curiosity. They're the clear NexPak ones too so they'll match my order when it gets in.

These are definitely the way to go, reading the spine isn't that big of a deal (I thought it may be). My plan was to convert snappers and double thick amarays, but now I may be converting them all.

Just to be clear, I bought the largest box of clear ThinPaks, 260 (they come in four smaller boxes of 65 each). I paid approximately $100, with shipping, so my ThinPaks were 38¢ each.

I started converting some of my kids' collection tonight. Here's a picture of two piles of 38 DVDs: a pile of thinpaks and a pile of empty single-disc keepcases that the discs orginally came in. I didn't reprint any art; just trimmed the edges of the existing art.



Also below are close-up pics of one of the converted-to-thinpak DVDs.

I'm pretty happy with these thinpak cases. Some of the titles didn't line up exactly on the spine or were a little too big. But it wasn't that many of them and didn't bother me too much. A lot of them did line up and fit. And I trimmed the edges just by feel. I didn't take exactly the same amount off the front and back; just eyeballed it.

Can anyone who has bought the double thinpaks tell how the center hubs connect. I've loved the singles, as they have a retaining ring too keep the DVD from slipping off. I'm just curious if one hub of the double 'locks in' the other hub, or if they meet flat in the center. I can't really tell from the pictures.

Thanks. I'm thinking of picking up quite a few double thinpaks to replace thin-double amarays as they're impossible to find in clear.

If you haven't been to Nexpaks homepage , check it out. They've announced a thin solution for four-DVD sets. Seems like a good way to house 3 and 4 disc sets if you like clear cases (though the ubiquitous dark gray is also available.) I hope these make it to the usual retailers soon.

Ain't that the truth! It's like there's an embargo or something.

You know, the sad thing is, I bet a big reason why there is such a huge demand for double keepcases now is all those backup programs that require one studio DVD to be spread across 2 DVD-Rs.

Ditto on that.

Tough it is not a perfect solution, I have found that you can actually snug four discs into the double ThinPak by putting 2 DVDs on each hub. It is a tight fit but it does actually work well enough - as long as you remember not to open it quickly and end up with discs dropping onto the floor. And as long as you don't mind that the discs touch each other.

I'm expecting my order of doubles in later this week and that's the 1st thing I'm going to try. I've fallen in love with the simplicity of the ThinPaks - simple and 100% effective hub design and no inserts just double sided covers.

The Slim4 is about an inch thick so two double ThinPaks would still be thinner, and then I only have to keep an inventory of singles and doubles. Unless the next case by NexPak betters the design simplicity of the ThinPaks I think I'll be using them for a long long time (until the media format changes).

Well, one positive I see to the Slim-4 over the double ThinPak is that it has clips for booklets, which seem to be more prevalent in multi-DVD sets. I'll probably end up trying both out. Something about double stacking the hubs just brings out the paranoid in me.

That's true. I have no problem ditching booklets & artwork but if you want to store them with the disc then ThinPaks may not be the way to go.

I so far haven't had a problem sticking booklets in with the artwork, so that it faces inward. Course, I haven't had any real thick booklets yet.

So far, my ThinPack conversion is going well. I'm only converting the stuff that I know I'm going to keep right now, which should free up some space on my shelves.
