Basic Speaker layout

Our HT room, which we're building is long and narrow, about 10' x 20'.

Anyone have recommendations on using 5 speakers vs. 7?

You won't regret it. With a room that long you should be able to place those rears well behind you, which is ideal. EX/es material really adds a new dimension to HT audio. I would recommend anyone who has the ability to add two rear speakers to do so.
