Iron Man (New Line sets 2005 release date) - Page 5

Re: Iron Man (New Line sets 2005 release date)

"It'll be interesting to see how they adapt the Mandarin to the screen. He's a great villain but as a Fu Manchu derivative he's the kind of character the PC police like to keep a very close eye on."

If they stick with the obsessed with technology and china domination themes they should be fine.

I reread the run John Bryne and John R jr did(loved the artowrk he did here, very fitting) and this armor has officially become my favorite.

Terrence Howard has been confirmed as cast as Jim Rhodes. I like the choice.

Re: Iron Man (New Line sets 2005 release date)

I was watching the military chennel the other day and they were talking about upcoming technology that they hope to make standard in the next few years.

Its a flexible cloth/rubber type material that has 1000s of sensors in it. This material remains flexible and pliable until sensors detect a bullet, which will make the material harden enough to stop a bullet. It will then relax again afterwards

Re: Iron Man (New Line sets 2005 release date)

I thought Zathura was a sequel to Jumanji. I could be wrong, I never saw either film.
Favreau isn't really who I would've gone for to make this movie, I'm sure there has to be someone better out there, that is at least somewhat of a fan.
I am OK with Downey JR. being Tony/Iron Man, not excited but I'm OK with that choice.

Re: Iron Man (New Line sets 2005 release date)

I believe Zathura was based on a book which was the follow up to Jumanji, hence the similarities.

Re: Iron Man (New Line sets 2005 release date)

I don't think JoSAN would have even brought up Zathura as a slam if he wasn't pissed about the casting. He supported this project until Downey was announced, just like he was fairly positive about the Spider-Man franchise until Venom was announced. Now, he slams it in toto in the Spider-Man TV show thread.

Sorry, JoSAN. I think you're a good guy with strong opinions, but that's how it plays out to me.

Re: Iron Man (New Line sets 2005 release date)

Did Downey really receive the most votes for Tony Stark? I really find that suprising becuase I hadent even considered him and never heard his name when peopel made casting preferences.

I agree, the director has to fight for his vision - Superman, Spiderman1&2, X2. I never had a problem with Tobey, I think hes a great Peter Parker. Raimi has done a great job with Spiderman so despite Venom, who I really REALLY hate, being in it, Im going to remain optimistic because the creative team has done such a amazing job so far. Fantastic Four was just pathetic IMHO.

My expectations for this have lowered. This movie has to be about the human being under the armor, but Im worried were going to get a actionfest.

"I've grown quite weary of modern movies these days, with all their emphasis on CGI"

If I were directing this, Id do everything I could to convince NL that whenever possible, the action scenes should be acted out on a greenscreen stage enhanced by CGI.

Re: Iron Man (New Line sets 2005 release date)

According to some rumors (AICN?), Gwyneth Paltrow may be playing Pepper Potts. Sounds a bit strange, but if the role is big enough and the script is good enough, who knows?

Re: Iron Man (New Line sets 2005 release date)

Michael Keaton was thought not to be the right look for Batman yet turned in the best and most powerful peformance of the character until Christian Bale.

I don't know JoSaN... the cast is pretty impressive. If nothing else, Iron Man will be an acting powerhouse. I say at the very least reserve judgment until the first trailer is released.

Re: Iron Man (New Line sets 2005 release date)

Jon Favreau is no slouch in the director's chair, either. I liked Daredevil, but I'm sure there's some out there that wish he'd directed the movie instead of merely acted in it.

Re: Iron Man (New Line sets 2005 release date)

Seems to me Bridges has been cast as the heavy.

Re: Iron Man (New Line sets 2005 release date)

I think Bridges will prob play a mentor role of some kind.

Downey is a odd choice, and yes I think disappointing, but I also think he can be very good in the right part(While I still think Eckhart could be a great Stark. Darken his hair add a mustache)

Im not going to give up this just yet. Theres still too much we dont know - The armor, story, Mandarin

I understand that New Line needs to get asses in the seats, but IMHO this has to be a character piece with great action sequences. Mathew Vaughn was attached to Xmen3, but this sees to me more the type movie someone like him should have.

BTW, I also go to the statue forum(Im working on a Groo at the moment). Theres a great sculptor who sometimes visits there named Tony Cipriano. Heres working on this and we've made it clear theres a want for this thing when hes done with it. It would be great if it was released someone how when its done.Tonys had some stuff released by the statue companies before

Re: Iron Man (New Line sets 2005 release date)

I'm pretty sure this isn't at New Line any more - Marvel is producing it themselves with Paramount distributing.

Re: Iron Man (New Line sets 2005 release date)

I didn't see it mentioned, but apparently Jeff Bridges is playing Obadiah Stane. I don't remember the details anymore, but I do know that he was a rival/enemy of Stark in the comics.

The original grey suit has been revealed. Looks basically exactly like the 60s comics version...
