Hell yes! I wasn't expecting this to ever see the light of day on dvd... now Columbia, how about a release of The Show?
Columbia huh? Let's pray that it's in widescreen.
Yeah, Fox put this out on laserdisc. Hope Columbia doesn't mess it up.

I love this movie. I hope it at least gets an anamorphic transfer.

can someone give a rundown or review of this movie so those of us, like me, who are out of the loop know what it is?

Think 'Spinal Tap' w/ a rap theme
That is wonderful news. I hope it gets a good treatment.

As has been said before, it is like "Spinal Tap" with a rap theme. And it is not anything like the remarkably unfunny and dissapointing CB4. Comparing the two is a great insult to "Fear of a Black Hat".

As a matter of fact, this movie is a deliberate and carefully contrived homage to "This is Spinal Tap". It even has the same plot elements: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
* The member (in this case it is the manager) that keeps dying
* The band breaking up because of a woman one of them is seeing
* The record company refusing to release a controversial song (similar to the album)
* The triumphant reuinion at the end of the movie

Even small details are preserved, such as:

* Their name tacked on insultingly at the end of the marquis ("And also Special Guest") very similar to the "Puppet Show and Spinal Tap" gig.
* One member having a large collection, showing them off in a very funny scene, in this case tennis shoes.

IMO this movie is every bit as good as the original "This is Spinal Tap". It is simultaneously one of the most brilliant comedies and most inspired "remakes" I've ever seen.

I had some email conversations with the people at Avatar (the production company responsible for the CD, movie, and website) about a year and a half ago when work was just starting on this. I hope they were able to incorporate all the special features that they were hoping to do. And I hope the hilarious made for TV version will be included.

Figures they would announce this now seeing how I just picked up the laserdisc about a month ago. Good news though.
so should i wait for the dvd to see it or watch the vhs my store has on the shelf?
Yeah! This is great great news. I've been waiting for this release for a long time now.

And I thought I was the only one to have seen this movie! Watched it at a friends house about 7-8 years ago after he begged me to see it. Very funny and at least worthy of a rental.

Manger: "'doggin' him?"
Skank: "And quite frankly, so am I"
Ice: "Who the fuck are you?"
Skank: "Obviously the only one here who cares about Ts welfare."
Tone: "How long you been on welfare?"
Tony I disagree with Max. Wait for the DVD. The audio on this movie deserves better than VHS HiFi delivers. The PCM LD audio is fantastic.

Nina: They say the silent ones are always the most dangerous.
Tasty Taste: Yeah, and if you've noticed, I ain't said shit this whole interview.

Is there any update on this or a link with more info? I haven't seen anything else about this release anywhere, and dvdpricesearch.com doesn't have any info yet, either.

Did you click the NWH link I posted?

I laughed my butt off at CB4. You had to know all the rap references to really "get it" though.
Philip, sorry, dawg. I scrolled right past that, yo. My apologies.

Man, I guess I was out of the Software section for too long, I totally missed this announcement and just found it in today's Digital Bits.

I'm in the same camp with the Hamm boys on this one, I love this film and was let down by CB4. I know all 3 of us have been waiting a LONG time to get this.

Yeah, because you don't need to understand all the references in FoaBH.

IMO, the references in Black Hat are often more subtle and better parodies of various rap paradigms they are having fun with.

"Oh, that's deep."
"Wait a second, you understand this mother-f**ker?"
