Well, it's the beginning of December and I'd have to watch about 70 films this month to finish the challenge. It's time to throw in the towel for this year. Here's looking forward to next year.

Well, there's no way I'm going to make it through my collection in one year without watching 7 titles per day, every day, and that's not going to happen. Work interferes with life. But I'd be up for a modified version where I watch all the discs I acquire in 2003 (if 2002 is any measure, that's still going to be about 500 discs--still a respectable number for a challenge if I do say so myself). In any event, I'll play along in my wussified version, if that's OK, which will also pick up as many things in my backlog as possible too. I am, however, going to do all commentaries since I don't feel a DVD has been completely watched until it has been plumbed to its depths (no wonder I've got such a backlog...). DVDs that I've written reviews on for www.digitallyobsessed.com will be marked with an asterisk. They may not go live immediately, though, since our editor has to pass on them. Please be patient. I'm counting multi-disc sets as one title generally, unless the individual discs are also being released separately (cf. the Woody Allen Collections). 2003 acquisitions marked with (#).

I'm in. With school in session it'll be kind of slow, but I'll make up for it during summer and Christmas.

Question: If I have multiple versions of one movie, do I have to watch them both? (ie. FOTR theatrical and FOTR extended, ET-1982 and ET-2002, not that I mind )

Also, I will not re-watch extra features or commentaries I've already listened to, however, I will watch un-seen extras and will listen to the commentaries I haven't gotten around to.

1/1/2003-1/2/2003 Watched the Abyss and the extras. This is a big release with a lot of information. My wife and I decided to watch the movies first and then return to all the commentaries after we watched all the films. This way we aren't overloaded with one film.

Today....Aliens. I guess were on a Cameron kick for a while, which is fun. I like his action stuff, you can keep the romance.

1/3/2003 Aliens...What a great film I wish I had the theatrical version though. I don't like the Ripley's daughter bit, but I really like the automatic guns tension when you watch the counter drop.

Do you have the two disc set? I did a similar challenge last year. I watched every version of every movie, commentaries and all the extras minus DVD-ROM stuff since I don't have a DVD drive in my machine (I actually finished the challenge last Sunday the 29th!!!, but it was only 100+ movies). But The Abyss was the one that really killed me. I couldn't find any practical way to go through things like the complete script. It was many hundreds of pages with no simple way to jump back to any specific point. There was no way I could read it in one setting, so I skipped it along with the original treatment and one other thing that was hundreds of pages long. In fact I skipped all scripts (Taxi Driver also comes to mind).

Did you actually go through that stuff? What are the rest of you going to do with extras like this?

In regards to scripts. I'm gonna skip em for the time being. Sorry, I'll sit through 2-3 hours of documentaries. But to sit there for lord knows how many hours to read a script is out of my league. With 400++ DVD's I will not have the time. It took me 4 1/2 hours just to finish "Minority Report" yesterday. What would it take me to finish either "The Abyss" or "Terminator 2" both of which have the scripts in em. If I have the time later on, I'll revisit a disc to read the script.
