I purchased this from my best friend who is an authorized dealer to go along with my Polk RM95 speaker package.  I originally priced out and demo'd the Polk series of subs in the same price range but my friend insisted on the Velodyne.  My previous sub was an Acoustic Research PSW120 which lasted for about 12 years.  It was never powerful and deep, but served its purpose for me in the small rooms I've had it in.  My new home required something more powerful, but my budget wasn't all that cooperative.  I consider my Family Room fairly large at 19'x15'.  Even though I couldn't listen to it before I purchased I went with my friend's suggestion.  I'm so happy with my decision!  I can't give a "proper" review and talk about running the sub through frequency sweeps or anything technical. All I can say is that with movie soundtracks large and small, the sub does a wonderful job of making you feel involved in the sonic landscape.  I have viewed several action movies I know inside out, that I have listened to on both high and low end sound systems and can say that I'm impressed with the performance.  The bass is loud when needed and incredibly dynamic without ever feeling overworked.  I haven't listened to music much, but I can say that it doesn't get me the same feeling like I have with movie soundtracks.  I have to recommend this sub strictly for dedicated digital surround sound setups.  For the price I haven't heard anything in our local Fry's or Best Buy that could compete.  Velodyne has a great reputation and with this sub they do not disappoint.  Paired with my Polk RM95s, I am a happy camper indeed!
