Fantastic for watching Blu-Rays, but the lack of flexibility hurts

Pros: Picture quality, build quality, set-up, analog outputs
Cons: No synchronization among mp3s or avi (video) files, expensive for a single use unit

I was recommended thi player by my HT guy.  He was absolutely correct on the build quality, picture quality, and overall "feel" of the unit.  As I asked about the ability to play other files from this unit which also reside on my home network, I was told the ability would be there.  I was further convinced when I noticed the file selection ribbon is the same as the PS3 (another great Sony product) and I knew that unit incorporated all files.  (I own a Wii, so this feature is important to me)

After watching a few Blu-Rays I was very impressed.  Then I went to select additional files to play and found the information I was provided to have been inaccurate.  Additional Google searching verified that the information I was provided was false.

I'm torn between suffering with lower qualty pictures to gain the synchronizing/inter-operability and simply waiting until March 2011 for either a firmware upgrade (not likely) or the opportunity to purchase the next iteration of this unit.  We will see.

I own a LOT of Sony gear and have never been so disappointed.  But I also understand I should have searched more of the internet instead of trusting my HT guy exclusively...
