Pros: Looks Great on my 1080i Sony RPTV
Cons: Analog Sub Out Has Low Level on many DVD's & BluRay Discs
Just bought it on a clearance sale for $268.00 CDN (or US at todays rate of exchange). Very happy with the picture on my ancient 1080i RPTV. Audio approaches DVD-A/SACD quality on many Blu-Ray discs I've tried so far. Bass management is great on most DVD & Blu-Ray titiles but certain ones lack the proper bass output and I need to crank the level on the sub amp.

Onscreen menu very easy to navigate. Can't wait to one day get a proper 1080p projector and see what this thing can do on a 100" widescreen!

Wanted the OPPO OP-83 Blu-Ray and already own a Pioneer DV-578A-S so the Sony BDP-S550 Blu-Ray Disc Player was a good compromise in my mind.

I give it 4.5 starts overall. The bass management is where it loses the half star. Sony, can we get a patch for this?

Pros: Excellent audio and video
Cons: Lacks extras like wi-fi, netflix and pandora streaming
I needed a blu-ray player with multi-channel analog outs because of my old receiver, and being a Sony fanboy went with this player. For basic movie functions, the player is outstanding. The video and lossless audio is just as good as anything I have seen at friends houses or in stores. It doesn't have a lot of the bells and whistles that a lot of people may want, but for watching movies you would be hard pressed at finding a better player.

Pros: 1 gb memory, ethernet connection for bd live and firmware updates.
Cons: A little slow loading.
My fourth Blu-ray player, I recommend this player for cost vs. performance.

using the multianalog connections (8), I can now get all the HD audio codecs through my older receiver, a 7.1 pioneer THX-Select 2--the only caveat that I noticed-----when the BD is recorded in 7.1 DTS-MA and my surround back channels are in the normal setting, I get 7.1 HD surround----if the BD is in 5.1 DTS-MA or DOLBY True or DOLBY DIGITAL PLUS, the surround back channels are not functioning----if I switch the surround back channels from normal setting to BI-AMP, then you get the SBS to work----why is that?   Why won't the SBS work in the normal setting?
