Samsung SP-A800B

The high-end projector leverages advanced optics and a Texas Instruments 1080p DLP® chip to deliver a level of color and image quality that is traditionally found in professional studio-grade monitors. Setting the standard for consistently delivering the industry’s richest and most detailed picture, the A800B produces premium color accuracy. In addition to its native resolution of 1920 x 1080, the SP-A800B boasts an impressive 95% aperture ratio and a fast 16 microsecond (0.016 millisecond) response time to further facilitate accurate and natural motion graphics.

Furthermore, the HD projector features a native contrast ratio of 10,000:1, providing stunning blacks and conveying dynamic shadowing details that result in high-definition film quality and stability. Also delivering a film mode with a frame rate of 24 frames per second, the A800B provides the same frame rate found in commercial movie theaters.

To facilitate the highest quality home theater experience and color reproduction, Samsung teamed up with Joe Kane Productions, a worldwide authority on visual imaging equipment and development. The result of this collaboration is a premium high-definition projector that reproduces astonishing flesh tones and natural colors. The SP800B allows users to freely select the color space for the three broadcasting formats (SMPTE-C, HDTV, and EBU) to deliver accurate projection regardless of format. In addition the projector has the capability of matching the gamma response curve of ultra-expensive studio video equipment.

Samsung SPA-800B Well Balanced Projector With Fantastic Color
Adam Gregorich reviewed July 1, 2009 at 12:11 am
Anyone in the AV industry recognizes the name Joe Kane. He was one of the founders of the Imaging Science Foundation (ISF), and a long time crusader for accurate video displays. Joe has worked with Samsung to make the SPA-800B one of the most accurate front projectors on the market. It supports and can be calibrated to HD, SMPTE-C and ECU video standards, and even has built in test patterns to aid in calibration. With any optical device lens quality is paramount and the Samsung has one of the best lenses available. While black levels aren’t as good as on the best LCoS models they are still more than adequate. There are 4 fixed Iris settings in addition to a dynamic setting giving you a wide range of control to balance light output with black level. The unit looks great with a unique curved gloss black exterior that has six integrated touch sensitive “buttons” for power and selection. There are lots of connectivity options with one composite RCA, one S-Video, two component, two HDMI and a VGA PC input. It comes with one of the best included remotes I have ever used thanks to its comfortable shape, logical button layout and the fact that just about everyone is back lit. There are discrete codes for power, each input, and toggle codes to scroll through most picture options as well as an RS-232 port for control. It does have vertical lens shift to aid in installation, but doesn’t have horizontal lens shift, so I would recommend a mount that has some adjustment it you can’t place it exactly in the center of the screen. There is no perfect front projector on the market today, but thanks to its color accuracy, lens quality and features, the Samsung SPA-800B is pretty close. Samsung just released an upscale SPA-900B model to compliment the SPA-800B. It has better black levels, and anamorphic support, but it will set you back an extra $5500.
