Pros: Fantastic gaming and multimedia support. Fast loading Blu-ray player. SACD support. PS1/PS2 emulation. More ports than other PS3 models.
Cons: Expensive. No bitstream output of Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD audio formats. After market add ons required for remote control & component video output.
Since this is an old and discontinued item, I'll try to keep it short. The Playstation 3 remains one of the best choices for playing Blu-ray movies -not to mention playing video games (the console's primary function).

The 80GB model which included Motorstorm or Metal Gear Solid 4 was the last PS3 model to support Super Audio CD playback. I think Sony really should bring back SACD compatibility in future upgrades of the PS3. It seems like a long shot for Blu-ray Audio to take off in popularity. And there is a decent number of existing SACD releases.

This PS3 model was also the last one to include 4 USB ports and three flash memory card slots. The additional USB ports are handy. I have two PS3 controllers, a PC keyboard and a 1TB external hard drive using the 4 ports on my console. The flash card slots are handy too. I applied my PS3's first firmware update using an SD card. I can take the CF card out of my DSLR camera, put it into the PS3 and start viewing photos -as long as I shot the photos as JPEGs; the PS3 won't read camera RAW files.

The PS3 is great at playing movies, videos, music and viewing photos. The gaming quality is really very good. For many years I did much of my gaming on PCs. With what it costs to buy or build a PC able to play the latest games well, consoles like the PS3 and XBox360 are a refreshing and far more affordable alternative. My only complaint on the gaming side is the games can get very loud. I've blown speaker drivers twice because of the dynamics!

The newest PS3 "slim" model adds Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio bitstream output and larger hard disc drives. I'm not all that fond of how the new console looks.
