I've had more than a few blu ray players, and just as a transport, this is by far the best I've had.  It' really doesn't have any bells or whistles, but it does produce outstanding picture quality in both the blu ray and dvd formats (upconverting).

Pros: Very fast load times, excellent upscaling, decodes and bitstreams high def audio.
Cons: Bright blue front panel lights that can not be dimmed.
This amazing JVC player is a real sleeper. Its load times are extremely fast. Blu-ray video quality is excellent. It both decodes and bitstreams Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio. Standard DVDs look wonderful when played on the JVC. It is very quiet and, well, it is just about perfect.

I say "just about" due to one minor annoyance, bright blue lights on the front panel. They look cool for about a minute, but then become distracting, especially if the player is in your line of site while watching TV in the dark. They can not be dimmed.

Despite this one design flaw, this player receives my highest recommendation. I've used various Sony, Panasonic and Samsung players in the past. I believe the feature set and performance of the XV-BP1 surpass every other player in its price range, as well as many players costing much more. It may be a little difficult to track one down, but it is definitely worth the effort.
