Pros: Quite, excellent picture reproduction
Cons: No remote focus or remote zoom
Cons: No remote focus or remote zoom
The Epson 1080UB is my second projector. This replaces a Panasonic 720p projector that finally died. The picture contrast between the two projectors was very noticeable.
Setting up the new Epson was very straightforward. I carefully unboxed the projector, the remote and the power cord. I mounted the adapter plate to the projector and connected it to my ceiling mount. I had the projector installed and running in about 15 minutes. I then connected my HTPC w/BluRay via HDMI and started the process of calibration, which consisted mainly of adjusting the throw and focus. I utilized the test pattern from Avia II to set the black level, color balance and sharpness.
After completing the initial setup, I spun up a couple sample discs. The first was Fool’s Gold on BluRay. The opening segment in this movie provides an excellent mix of color complexity that reveals the Epson’s capability to render an HD source. The vibrant scenes were realistically projected with an impressive color depth.
Not only was the Epson delivering eye popping pictures, it also was running much quieter than my previous projector, with no notable heat output.
