Deer Hunter Blu-Ray Digibook

From the "Studio Canal Collection," a Criterion Collection-like enterprise; each Blu Ray in the series is housed in what the studio are calling a "hardbook." It is different to a digibook, in that the booklet is separate and slides into a pouch in the front, instead of being bound like a book. The booklet features an essay by Ryan Gibley. These "hardbooks" may also be distinguished from "digibooks" in that they have a matte finish, instead of glossy.

Pros: Deer Hunter has never looked better
Cons: Amazing job with original film elements, which have always seemed quite plain.
Just put Deer Hunter on and, caveat: first impression only. Will add to this after closer inspection. But Impression is very strong. This appears to blow the previous 3-year-old blu ray out of the water in terms of clarity. Deer Hunter has always looked awful on home video; very dull and drab and worn and tired. Not anymore! If you've never seen Deer Hunter, don't necessarily blind buy it expecting "pop," but for anyone who's seen Deer Hunter on home video, this is "pop" city! For me, easy to recommend. Grain has been preserved, though it is so fine its usually not noticeable; but the fact that its there suggests no DNR or EE has been used; and I certainly can't notice any at all. Image is rich without appearing oversaturated. Wow.
