Behind The Mask (1946) Reviews

Cons: average picture quality; plot goes for comedy rather than mystery thrills
Popular radio shows of the 1930s and 1940s were often turned into either serials or feature films, and in the case of The Shadow, it got both a 1940 serial and this 1946 feature film. Made for Monogram, Behind the Mask might have some of the look and feel of a poverty row effort, but the actors are good ones, and if only the powers that be had opted to make it a serious mystery thriller instead of a misguided screechy comic piece, Behind the Mask might have been the first in a lucrative series of films for the studio featuring the mysterious Shadow character. Instead, this one misfire spelled the end of The Shadow’s movie career for a few decades.
