Cons: Poor transfer from what is presumably a 1980s analog video master; arbitrary chapter stops; no extras
Set in the early 20th century, Amy tells the story of Amy Medford (Jenny Agutter), a woman who wants to escape the shackles of a bad marriage and the memories of the son she lost, so she goes to a rural school for deaf and blind children in the South. While her intention to teach deaf children how to speak is met with skepticism and outright scorn at first, she soon bonds with her students and gets results. Made by Walt Disney Productions for TV in 1981 with the intent of airing it on The Wonderful World of Disney, but released in theaters instead and seldom seen since then, this is an intimate, well-crafted, and endearing drama buoyed by a fine performance by Jenny Agutter. Sadly, its DVD debut as part of the Disney Generations Collection, an MOD program at Amazon.com, leaves quite a bit to be desired where its presentation is concerned. Read the full review here.
