There is absolutely no way that I am going to get into the same level of re-purchase that I did going from Laserdisc -> DVD -> Blu Ray. Having said that the following are definite purchases assuming that the appropriate work has gone on to take full advantage of a 4K presentation:

Any Sergio Leone, Any David Lean, El Cid, Ben Hur, 2001 A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner, Alien, Aliens, Legend, Citizen Kane, Key Largo, Casablanca, Maltese Falcon, The Magnificent Ambersons, The Third Man, The Wild Bunch, Hero, Star Wars (OT), Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, Forbidden Planet, The Thing, The Wind And The Lion, Batman (C. Nolan), Hud, The Hustler, Spartacus, 55 Days In Peking, My Fair Lady, The Straight Story.

Not sure there are many more

The best launch for the format would be for the original Star Wars trilogy to be only available on UHD (no blu-ray or DVD).

I cannot understand why posters on HTF keep referring to the original film as Star Wars: A New Hope or IV etc. For those of us who saw them theatrically, the titles were, are, and will always be:

Star Wars

The Empire Strikes Back

Return of the Jedi
Good point, but I don't mind the changed titles nearly as much as this

Also illogical, as he is one of the "raiders" himself.

Well I will buy the first few titles that are released unless I have a 4K version I own already. I would re-buy James Bond and Star Wars without a second thought. Good question I love action movies so I'm sure I could get sucked into remastered versions of the big box office titles. I just don't buy those old titles i.e. 60s, 70s or older stuff.

I'm quite happy with Blu-ray.

So I won't name any titles.

But IF I am going to join UHD, I would only buy these titles that doesn't look good on BD.

What looks good and what not is a matter of perspective. ;)

If I decide to buy into UHD in the distant future, I am only upgrading obscure horror titles and schlock. Well, kind of like what I'm doing now :) Out of nearly 100 titles on my current wishlist, 95% are B movies - seems to be the only stuff that gets me excited these days. Since The Abyss and True Lies are the only 2 major A-list titles left without HD upgrades for me, there's simply nothing the studios are releasing that I want. I don't need another upgrade for Lawrence of Arabia, The Godfather or Indiana Jones - I'm quite happy with my current Blu-rays.

I'd buy films that would show off the enhanced picture -- in other words, pictures that show wide vistas and/or have the proverbial "cast of thousands." Of course, all of those are catalog films, and we know what the studios think of them. If the first batch is any indication, UHD is a niche market I won't be part of.

I think this time around I will be more selective, I kind of went on a feeding frenzy when DVD and Blu-ray came along, The Main question is will the titles I'm interested in make it to 4k ? There are so many that haven't made it to Blu-ray yet.

The Spy Who Loved Me
Moonraker
For Your Eyes Only
Die Another Day
Dr No

Tomorrow I will be purchasing UHD titles to play on my UBD-K8500 when it arrives this Monday or Tuesday.

These are the titles I will be looking for when I go. Not sure what titles will be in stock tomorrow. To bad a few more studios do not have more movies out at this time.
The Martian
Mad Max: Fury Road
Maze Runner

Hey Dave, what do the back of the discs look like? Same material as a regular Blu-ray or something wildly different?
