Hello.

I have recently fallen upon a Mitsu XS206U projector. Fantastic lumens, contrast, bulb life. I bought it used with 600 hours on it. I have an Insignia 5.1 receiver with HDMI (i worked at best buy in college, don't knock my cheap receiver. it was HUGE to have HDMI that didn't just switch back then) that i am actually a fan of.

So, my plan was to run a PS4, FireStick and an Antenna with a converter box with HDMI to my receiver. This allows me to play games, stream, and have locals through the receiver, run an HDMI out and convert it over to VGA for the projector, since resolution isn't my issue.

I can get some converters to actually "function" be it I get a picture. But the picture seems be yellow. as in a yellow filter. Running just a VGA does not cause this, as well as the menus were fine and not yellow, so the projector being the issue is out.

1.) Clearly passive HDMI to VGA does not work.
2.) Inexpensive "powered" units don't seem to work either. Powered being it has a mini USB cable that plugs into it.

Is it possible to get an HDMI uncompressed to VGA with appropriate colors? Clearly I am doing a mancave on a budget, so buying a new projector is out. Worst case I ditch the streaming stick and run component, and convert that to VGA since it is RGB.

Any insight? I am new to this thread. I worked at Best Buy in college and I am on the brink of being an AV nerd, which I am glad to be a part of. Thanks ahead of time for all of your help!

I guess Best Buy didn't teach you what DVI-D is.

On second lookup...

Appears this is a XD206U. My search for "what I thought this was" yielded projectors with DVI-D.

On to your problem...

The only way to make this work is with a "meant for HD signal" component to VGA adapter.

All attempts to use HDMI are fruitless.

This projector with HDMI devices is a doorstop.

A company called Converge AV makes a VGA to HDMI adaptor box (i've seen one recently) Check with monoprice.com for one. They seem to be the go-to place for the DIY crowd.

Thanks guys! HDMI was needed over DVI for my receiver. So it would still need to be HDMI out, then flipped to vga some way.

The culprit was the native resolution in the adapter. I needed a scaler box to address this. Pictures soon! Thanks!

Unfortunately, the only reliable solution will probably cost you more than the projector did. Atlona AT-HD420 HDMI to VGA/Component Converter. $239 on Amazon.

If you have a computer with VGA out, I would make sure the VGA input on the Projector is still functioning correctly before you purchase anything. However another option is an HDMI to Component Converter. I would recommend this one from the Slingbox website (another independent seller). I have it, and it works as advertised without issues. I have gone through a few cheaper options that were unreliable.

HDMI to Component $50

Typically component and VGA are not interchangeable, however it does look like this projector can automatically detect which signal it is receiving. (Component is a video signal, while VGA is a graphic signal with Horizontal and Vertical sync)

Component to VGA cable $5.89

Good luck!

Found a scaler for 60 bucks on Amazon which let me adjust the resolution. It looks like it will be 1080i or deinterlaced to 720, but it's my first project for a theater room. It is working flawlessly with all things to my receiver, HDMI to said box and on to my xd206u. Now to decide on either shelf or ceiling mount and I will post pictures
