I think quality went down at the end of season 7 with the departure of Buddy Atkinson as writer (Mark Tuttle had left the prior year). I'll still buy all 9 seasons if released.

I don't know much about BH (my mom was a fan when she was a kid.)

Is S1 public domain? Is that why there's multiple versions? (Apologies if this was discussed earlier in the thread & I missed it)

EDIT: Ok, I couldn't open all the thread entries earlier but now I see them. Looks like more than 1 season was PD.

Since I already bought multiple sets to get the complete season one, I can wait on this to drop in price. Hopefully someday I can get it for under $10.

Season five is what I really want, and would pay top dollar for.

and I hope the Christmas episode is there from Season 1 tooo. MPI put that out separate I believe. I had it on a PD set and never bought. ....but great having hopeful news like this for the BevHB. I have up to season 3...not problem with double dipping on S1 and getting 4+ on my shelf. Can't wait!

Season one has Perry Botkin's background music (far superior to Curt Massey's).

Season one has Richard Whorf's direction (far superior to Joseph Depew's).

Season one has all those great shots of the Kirkeby Mansion (not used in any of the color episodes).

Season one has the best use of exterior locations (the Commerce Bank "street," Hollywood Bowl, etc.)

Season one has Cousin Pearl.

Season one has a more interesting Granny (Irene Ryan without glasses and not overplaying the part).

Season one has the best fish-out-of-water concepts.

Season one has a more interesting kitchen set.

'Nuff said.

The first couple of seasons are written and played less broadly, and that does work better sometimes. On the other hand, I think Raymond Bailey and Nancy Kulp got better material for the two of them as the years went on, and their scenes were real highlights of the later seasons for me.

I do agree with the poster who mentioned that Jethrine was a bad idea, and luckily dropped after the first season. Seeing Max Baer Jr. in a dress, with a little girl's voice coming out of his mouth, was more pain inducing than humorous. Still, there is too much to like about season 1, to overlook that one misstep.

Linda Kaye Henning was the voice of Jethrine prior to her being Betty Jo on Petticoat Junction which means Betty Jo was the second time she played Bea Benaderet daughter. Of course she was also Paul Henning's daughter. Ah trivia.

They did have their roles fleshed out as the seasons went on. Sadly, it took until the 7th season for them to get billing in the opening credits, something that should have happened a lot sooner. However, I never cared for how nasty they made Mr. Drysdale out to be in the last season. He was always money hungry, but his attitude took a turn for the worse in the last season with the whole women's lib movement. He was downright snarly with Lou Ellen Aden in the episode where she came to visit the Clampetts, and even insulted Ellie several times in "Love Finds Jane Hathaway."

I think Mr. Drysdale hit his high water mark in Season 6. I loved how he explained to the Griffith Park police officers with a straight face that he was not really Field Marshall Von Hindenberg but instead the President of the Commerce Bank of Beverly Hills.

Are you kidding? I still fall out of my chair laughing when I see that episode at the, was it the Bugtussle Cinema, where Jethrine is playing piano to the silent 1925 Ben-Hur singing "drive them horses hard Ben. drive them horses hard".

He was still "regular" Mr. Drysdale in S7. After mistakenly leasing the 5th floor to Jethro, he attempted to get "J.B. Boy Wonder" to represent Cousin Roy Halsey (Roy Clark), and sided with Jed about how great Roy was. Even beginning in S8, he was still the normal Drysdale it seemed. It was S9 where his character really seemed to go "dark side." I also HATED how in The Legend of the Beverly Hillbillies they made it out that he was in prison.

Speaking of S7, I do think it started to go off the rails at that point. There were still quality episodes to be found, especially the ones with Roy Clark and Pat Boone, plus the Hooterville crossovers, but it started going to a Green Acres type of silliness with the bear, Fairchild, acting human.

^^ I think you hit it on the head. Max Baer does look embarrassed. I always think out loud, thanks Max for putting up with this. He really did a top comedy job in the dress just like Milton Burle, Jack Lemmon/tony Curtis and Monty Python. I just find it beyond hilarious.
