Welcome to the cool kids club, Osato! :)

Guess I now have club membership as well, LOL.

Finally got a mod to go w/ my several months old Oppo 103 and a handful region-B-locked discs... and plan to order some more, especially since I just realized there are some readily affordable titles of interest from Germany...

Yeah, the mod is a bit of nuisance to use, but since most discs I own are apparently region-free (rather than region-A-locked) -- and I won't own that many region-B-locked ones anyway -- I probably won't need to switch regions quite that often... And a couple programmed macros on the uni remote help when that's needed...

Oh rats, I have to wait till my 2nd qtr bonus to join this club. Hopefully by then the Sony 7200 region-free model will be down some in price. This past Christmas I got my two floor-standing speakers so the region free player has to wait a bit.
Just as a suggestion put the player you want in your cart. I did his and got an email asking to make an offer on mine. They accepted the offer and I paid a lot less than the price listed online.

On what site did you accomplish this?

Sounds like a plan.

Would you mind revealing the player you got and what they accepted?

Per their current pricing with region free included, you got $49 off. Good deal. Think you for the info.

No problem. I'm happy with the player thus far too.
I believe they may have lowered prices a bit here for the first of the year too.

Anyway when you do buy post how it goes and which player you end up with!

Oh yeah, I will.

BTW, do you know whether these are software or hardware mods? I realize they guarantee the mode but that's only good as long as they are in business. A hardware mod would more likely be permanent.

Pretty sure it's a hardware mod. The work is guaranteed and the have been in business for over 30+ years.

I put the Sony S5500 in my cart last night. I hope I receive an email from them by Monday. I considered the S6500 but then found a review that said the S5500 was identical except it doesn't do 4K upscaling. As I understand it, most of the 4K tv's do a good job at upscaling anyway.

I've ordered the S5500. The company finally sent me an email asking me to make an offer and I asked for $50 off and they said the best they could do was $30 off, which I accepted.

That's exactly what I did and ended up getting $91 off the list price. Details coming a little later.

I've officially joined having put in my order for Sony BDP-S7200 Region-Free Blu-Ray/ Region Free DVD player.
Hard part is I have to wait for my birthday in late July. To actually open the box. Wife will see to that.
Been there, done that. It's very important for wives that you get the gift on the date. :)

Here was my choice which I purchased from Bombay Electronics.

BTW: Out of all the specialist vendors I found (including eBay) they were the only ones who would deal with me on the price. I didn't pay near the stated price but they got a good deal from me.

Oh and to be clear, I got both DVD and Blu-ray region free.

UPDATE: NOOWWWW I get a email from 220 Electronics with a offer to make them a offer. Sorry folks but good luck in the future.
I'll be back later with info on BBE's customer service and my satisfaction with the new player.

I just ordered the same model from 220-electronics using the technique described here - thanks to those who suggested it!
The price in the cart was $179: $139 for the player plus $40 for the Blu-ray region-free modification. I left it there and went away, and they sent three emails over the next three days; two offering 10% off, then another one asking for an offer.
I offered $125; they countered with $152.50. I replied that for $145 I would order immediately, and they sent a PayPal invoice for that amount. So I got $34 off their original price.
