The Serpent and the Rainbow was an unusual film for Wes Craven, as it was essentially a horror film about literal zombies, and based upon fact.

With location footage shot in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, the film has an authentic look and feel, and John Lindley's (Field of Dreams, Pleasantville) camera work helps to bring that together.

Universal has supplied a quality master to Scream Factory, with superb color, and a natural looking grain structure.

A very nice Blu-ray.

Good to hear. After the classics that Wes Craven made (The Last House On The Left, The Hills Have Eyes, A Nightmare On Elm Street, Scream), I think this one of his best and most underrated movies.

Easily Craven's most underrated film. Glad to hear it's received good treatment on disc. The DVD was desperately in need of an upgrade, and the German BD looked waxy and overly bright.

And the screenshots confirm that this is a strong upgrade over the German transfer:

Brightness is now returned to where it should be and the film grain is represented faithfully. Nice to see Universal deliver a quality master for this one. Hopefully, they'll do likewise for Midnight Run. The four month delay on that one has me hopeful for a remaster.
