Fords's illness (I believe he was experiencing diarrhea at the time) really helped sell the disgusted look on his face in that scene. Just one of those great scenes that might not have been. Great at least in terms of how much I laughed.

Page 1600 of testy! (for those of us who have our page limits set to 20 posts/page.)

That'll mean 32000 posts by the time we reach the bottom.

Let's celebrate with a current picture of the beautiful Lauren Graham (and Yanic Truesdale) as they return to the set of The Gilmore Girls.

To this day, I have never heard an audience laugh as hard or as long after that scene. The next few minutes of dialogue couldn't be heard due to the laughing. [emoji38][emoji38]

As a trained gun nut, I find almost every "gun scene" in Hollywood films to be absolute nonsense.
It makes me smile when the whole body of the person being hit is thrown more backwards upon impact than just the hand of the shooter holding the originating gun upon firing the projectile.
(In reality, people are hardly moved physically by the shear impact of one or two bullets of course).

If you look at the video clip when Indy shoots his hand barely moves. Yet he's firing a large-caliber revolver whose recoil would kick like a mule. Note he shoots from the hip without bringing the gun up to eye level so he could aim it.

Indy was a shoot from the hip kind of guy. :)

I see your point Dennis, but I think that looking for realism in an Indiana Jones films (or most Hollywood productions for that matter) is a wasted effort. As an aside, are there any films where you think firearms are treated in a realistic manner? Just curious about your thoughts on the matter since the topic came up.

Well, sure, machine gun leg Rose McGowan in Planet Terror is the go to example of gun realism. :)

I neglected to comment upon Cees' excellent point. Films routinely violate Newton's third law of motion when depicting gun violence. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

More offensive than Mandingo, I'm watching The Klansman, a 1974 film starring Lee Marvin and Richard Burton. A nasty piece of work featuring multiple rapes, murder, beatings and castration. the 'N' word gets mentioned enough times to make Tarantino's jaw drop.

Miracle of miracles I did get one email notification today, for the Top 3D Titles thread, must have been an accident. :3dglasses: Otherwise after 16 years of HTF membership nothing in the google mailbag to indicate this forum is buzzing with activity. :)

Looking through my "watched" threads, nearly all the ones that were buzzing with activity prior to the update haven't been posted in since. Shame.

To balance Steve's racist viewing, I watched the Bob Dylan "Don't Look Back" doc. Pretty brilliant filmmaking that is more impressive with repeat viewings. the Criterion disc is perfect with nearly 90 minutes of unreleased footage. I just wish they could get a legit version of Eat The Document released. Blrrrrrrrm

The Klan attack! D.W. Griffith would have been so proud. O.J Simpson arrested for murder, no no he's let off. Lee Marvin gets shot in the arm, Dick Burton punches a racist scumbag [bites fist] it's all so exciting! This film revels in it's badness. I doubt it would ever get a remake.

A Bob Dylan doc? mmm not my sort of thing Russ. I did watch The ABCs of Death 2 about a week ago, I'm still recovering. [shivers] It wasn't too bad actually, some of it was quite inventive.

That's actually a difficult question. Perhaps films made by David Lean or John Milius. In Doctor Zhivago, when Lara shoots Victor at close range, she misses and hits him in the left arm. In The Wind and The Lion, when the Raisuli shoots at the purple beach pirates, his first aimed shot hits but subsequent shots miss.

I wish I could find a favorite cartoon from decades past. In sequential panels, two cowboys with rifles crouch behind a fence and about 20 Indians on horseback are shown charging. The two cowboys fire and ALL the Indians fall off their horses. The first cowboys says "I got 'em", while the second cowboy says "rats, I missed".

IIRC a few years back I was complaining about how Hollywood films distort historical events. Even as great a film as Lawrence takes great liberties with the historical facts. For example, Auda Abu Tayi did not get conned into joining the attack on Aqaba at the last minute: he'd been present for the planning back at Feisal's camp. And Lawrence knew all about Sykes-Picot from the beginning since he personally knew Mark Sykes back in Cairo. In any event Sykes-Picot had been leaked to the press and was published in the Manchester Guardian on 26 November 1917.

My concern with Hollywood's portrayal of history or guns is that far too many people get all their knowledge about either from just watching the movies. They take drama as historical fact and ascribe "magic powers" to guns.

One lesson I've slowly learned over my life is that even history books are tainted. Newspapers may be "the first draft of history" but the subsequent books may be just as biased. I've read many books on the history of the British Empire and it's amazing that they are discussing the same periods of history since their theses are so different.

Oh yeah, I agree that Hollywood skews folk's perceptions. Perhaps not overtly, but I believe there is some influence. History is always sacrificed at the altar of entertainment in Hollywood films. I'd be hard pressed (outside of the documentary form) to think of a film that portrayed history with fidelity. Admittedly some get closer than others.

One of the more famous examples of how Hollywood can alter perceptions is the

...and in comic book movie news Deadpool is heading for a $100m + opening weekend, it's a smash hit folks. As one critic put it this might not be the hero we dream of but it's the one we deserve. :)

I'll be going to see it some time this week.

Weasel: Oh. Motherf-cker, you are hard to look at.

Deadpool: Like a testicle with teeth?

Weasel: You look like Freddy Krueger face-f*cked a topographical map of Utah.

Deadpool: And you are...?

Negasonic Teenage Warhead: Negasonic Teenage Warhead.

Deadpool: Negasonic Teenage... what the sh!t? That's the coolest name ever!

Colossus: Language please, Deadpool.

Deadpool: Oh, suck a c-ck, Colossus.
