We probably should have started one after the last regular season game.

Lots of cuts should be coming up as teams dump salaries.

The Chargers have the number 3 pick in the draft. No idea (yet) who they'll pick. But it sure would be nice to have a really solid running game for a change. Our running game has sucked for far too long.

But then there's the offensive line that needs bolstering. Too many injury-prone players (both offense and defense).

This could be the last season in San Diego for the Chargers. I hope its a good one.

Running backs rarely are drafted that high anymore, so I doubt the Chargers use the #3 pick there. That position has become more of a committee approach by most teams. Besides, they drafted Melvin Gordon in the first round last year. If they fix the offensive line, the running game will improve.

On Mike & Mike this morning they were discussing Calvin Johnson and Marshawn Lynch, and both Mikes thought that neither player was Hall of Fame worthy. Lynn Swann -- probably the worst WR in the Hall - had also stated recently that he did not think Johnson was a Hall of Famer. It will be interesting to see how this shakes out when he becomes eligible. His first year of eligibility could be competing with Peyton Manning and Charles Woodson, who are both first ballot worthy. Terrell Owens, whose career numbers are much, much better than CJ's, did not get in this year. Of course, TO's personality certainly had a lot to do with that, while CJ is a very well-liked and respected person.

The Raiders are staying Oakland for 2016, there really wasn't really much of a chance that they would move for 2016.

Davis wants to stay in Oakland and he would like to build a new stadium right were the current one is located. Right now the A's are the biggest road block, they need to make a commitment as to where they want to play.

So, if the Raiders do somehow get the go ahead to build a new stadium at the existing location, where would they play while the stadium is being built? Is Candlestick Park still standing, or did it get torn down? Are Stanford or Cal-Berkley options? Maybe try to rent from the Niners for a couple of years?

I hear there's an empty stadium in St. Louis. ^_^

Playing somewhere else while the new stadium is being built would not be an issue. It's all just a matter of working out the details.

Berkley would be a hoot since they played there several times during the 70s while the A's were in the playoffs but getting in and out is pretty bad.

A bigger problem is where would the A's play if they decided they wanted their new ballpark where the current stadium is now located.
Their only real option is AT&T and frankly I don't see the Giants being too open to the idea since the Giants idea of friendly cooperation between the teams is considerably one-sided. Their way or the highway.

Hell, the Giants would like nothing better than to have the A's move permanently out of that area.

I think RG3 goes to someplace like Buffalo or the Jets or maybe the 49ers. Perhaps even the Eagles would consider him. I really don't think he fits in Dallas. Johnny Manziel would be perfect for Dallas but the way he is going he is likely not to even be in the league next year. You can obviously land Johnny for nothing so he is a no risk pick-up and Jerry Jones was the one owner that loved him. Plus Johnny is the perfect Dallas Cowboy type...a nutjob and dangerous to himself and others.

Jared Allen annouced his retirement. Very good player for the Vikings.
Maybe a Hall of Famer.

Is it my imagination or are more players retiring earlier than usual in their careers, possibly because of the newfound awareness of concussion-related health issues?

I think it might be playing a part but I think the amount of money really good players make these days has more to do with it.

I think it's equally about both of those factors. Also, it's not just about concussions, but the other physical issues these players endure after their football career. The pain they feel just getting out of bed must be awful.

I agree that it is both factors. The huge amounts of money some players make now makes it easier to walk away earlier before their bodies are completely crippled. The $100M Calvin Johnson has made is more than enough to support his current family and future generations if he is intelligent with investments (and Calvin is a pretty smart guy), and his body is already breaking down at 30 years old. Why put yourself through that for several more years when you are already completely secure financially?

In CJ's case, I think the perennial losing also played a part (as it did with Barry Sanders). If the franchise had some hope of truly contending for a title, he may have put up with the pain for another year or two.
