Pinocchio is probably the greatest animation miracle of all time and the artistry will never be surpassed. Also, an excellent script and absolutely thrilling and entertaining film.

And that fantastic song score, too. No wonder both the score and the "When You Wish Upon a Star" song won Oscars.

I guess Disney thinks they'll entice us to repurchase this set with the addition of:
Snow White in Seventy Seconds (1:12, HD): a young rapper relates the story of the film.

That may end up as Most Useless BD Extra of 2016 - what a waste of space!

It's so bad they don't even tell us the name of the kid - maybe they wanted to protect her from future embarrassment! :D

Hello all---

I could have sworn that I saw something about there being a newly discovered and restored Oswald short included with this new release.

Did I imagine that?

Regards,
matt

Ah, according to another review, the Oswald short is exclusive to Disney Movies Anywhere.

It's my favorite Disney Animated Movie. One extra not included that should have been is the 1938-04-24 episode of the Jack Benny radio program that includes the parody Snow White and the Seven Gangsters (https://archive.org/details/JackBenny1 currently number 55 on the list). This is one of the best bits from the show ever and it was done with Walt Disney in attendance. Best part: Andy Devine as The Prince.

My question is how different is this new Walt Disney-John Canemaker audio commentary compared to the Walt Disney-Roy Disney track from the other release. I love vintage Walt and that's the only potential selling point for me here.
My copy of the new Blu-ray arrived today. I plan to watch it this weekend and compare the audio commentary to the one on the previous Blu-ray to see if there are any difference I can suss out. I will post an update within the next two weeks, as my weekends have a habit of getting away from me. :)

Brad here. First since I do not yet own a copy of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1938), I am debating on whether I should get this new Blu release or go back and try to obtain the 2009 Blu? I should get it to help complete my Disney Blu collection and we do get our friends Matt & Amy who in addition to two handsome sons, have a beautiful 4 year old daughter all of whom visit us regularly and would love to see Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs on the 70.
Furthermore, should I also consider the previous Platinum DVD release to get extras that might not have made it to the Blu release (as Disney is notorious for)?

Oh and some news along a different but related tack (prickly and controversial as it is), it has been reported on Wiki that Warner Bros possibly is looking to do a valid release of the "Censored Eleven" animated shorts from Merrie Melodies; foremost of which is the Bob Clampett short Coal Black and the Sebben Dwarves. According to the Censored Eleven Wiki page, all restoration and transfer work has been completed as of Jan 2016 but no official release announcement.

I don't intend to start any discussion here on this related topic and any such dialogue should be referred to the appropriate HTF thread (or one started if none exists) so I won't say anything further on that topic here.

A shame that the Oswald short isn't actually included on the disc; it's inclusion would have actually gotten me to rebuy Snow White even though I already own the previous Diamond edition Blu. Not a fan of these digital only extras.

This morning I listened to the commentary from the first Blu-ray released and then a few hours later the one from the new Blu-ray. I cannot discern any differences.

I will say I prefer the menus on the original Blu-ray, which is a bit truer to the film. The new menu feels like it is playing up the prestige of the film rather than the fun and joy of it.

Thanks Mark! I guess the initial press release that trumped a new commentary was in error.

This release was made for people like me. I missed out on the 2009 release and now I have a 3 1/2 year old Disney princess fiend. I checked online for the 2009 release before this was announced and it would have cost me over $100 2nd hand. I am willing to forego any supplements for the chance to have Disney open up their precious vault and release it again so we can purchase it at a reasonable price.
