The film has already grossed over 100 million worldwide and there are many countries where it hasn't been released, so it could pull in a lot more. It only cost around 40 million to make. I don't think Tarantino made this film to make a ton of money. If he wanted to make a ton of money he would have done a remake of Star Wars.

Yeah, I liked everyone (maybe not the Spaniard, or was it the Mexican, the guy that sort of lost his head), & Michael Madsen didn't have much of a part (his deep growl was a test of the cinemas sound system!), & this is the first time I've liked Tim Roth in a part. I liked spending time with them, & it was a shame when they started, er...not being there anymore. The Blu-ray shall be mine.
The power of great storytelling. I could watch a stand alone film about any one of the characters. Michael Madsen as "Grouch" Douglas would be perfect for Quentin Tarantino's third Western!

I noticed that when John Ruth pays Daisy a small compliment about her song she strums on the guitar(which is quite haunting, but pretty) she being evil as she is adds the little dig verse toward 'The Hangman' that sets him off.

I was thinking if she acknowledged his compliment and tried to continue the conversation in a friendly manner, the movie could have gone in a really different direction, maybe with Ruth having a change of heart toward Domergue. But Quentin Tarantino movies always do that to me. Since Pulp Fiction I always think "what if.." because I like the characters so much, and would be interesting to see how they play out in different situation(in my head of course).

Also, just when I think I'm outgrowing my geekdom I see the Hateful Eight action figures, and have to order a case of them pronto:

As I recall Ruth showed Daisy tenderness a few times with beef jerky and wiping something from her face before she ate.

Once upon a time, roadshow versions of films were routinely cut after their roadshow release and were shown in neighborhood theaters in shorter versions, as was the case with BEN-HUR and IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD, to name two famous cases. I think the same was true of another western, CHEYENNE AUTUMN.
Not forgetting STAR,HEAVENS' GATE,2001 - A SPAC E ODYSSEY;SOUTH PACIFIC;CLEOPATRA,THE SAND PEBBLES ,THE BOYFRIEND,THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY, HAMLET- all 70mm films that were also cut before or during their 70mm Roadshow releases. That was even before they hit the suburbs and general release. PORGY AND BESS;AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS;THE ALAMO and SPARTACUS were others that suffered badly in their 35mm releases. The Italian masterpiece ROCCO AND HIS BROTHERS was heavily shortened in some countries. It is my all time favourite film.Even the Cinerama epic HOW THE WEST WAS WON was cut in its 35mm release in non-Cinerama cities even during it first run. Other made for tv masterpieces, such as DAS BOOT and HARP OF BURMA (aka THE BURMESE HARP) (my second all time favourite film) were reduced in length before they were released in cinemas.I am sure that there are many more films that can be added to my list.

I continue to nit pick.

How is this a "Roadshow" when no seats are reserved? Two weeks in and it's available at every multiplex in the land. A roadshow was an exclusive event at a handful of high end theaters across the nation with reserved seats only.

The "Cinerama" credit is ridiculous. Ulta Panavision and Super Panavision films designed for Cinerama theaters only carried a "Cinerama" credit when screened in Cinerama theaters. When shown in 35mm or standard 70mm theaters the prints had no Cinerama credit. The credit should only be prints of "The Hateful Eight" screened at the Cinerama Dome or Martin Cinemara.
Advance seats were available to be reserved in Australia for the film's 70mm run. I agree that showing the Cinerama logo was ridiculous.I wonder if Mr Tarantino had permission from Pacific Theaters to use this logo as it is subject to copyright?

Despite shooting on film with its attendant costs perhaps one way he kept the costs down was because shooting on film applied more discipline to wanting to reshoot a scene because he wasn't 100% happpy with it. With digital you shoot as many times as you like (how often do we hear the call to our friends/family taking pictures of us to take a few more for luck) whereas for film the additional cost of film, perhaps having to thread up another spool and the time taken, makes you more disciplined about your filming process.

Also offered her a "Snakebite" for her coffee

It does give a little bit extra context to the character. In the sense that it's nothing personal, he's just bringing her in, but yeah if you fuck with while he's brining you in, he will knock you down.

I think it its great to have the Cinerama logo on the H8, also an In Cinerama logo is on the new 70mm prints of 2001.

I do hope we see 70mm prints of Batman v Superman and ID 2.

Thanks to Mr Tarantino for bringing back UP70 in 2016 to show younger people how a cinema picture should really look .

I wish I had bought cases of the Django Unchained toys. Once they get pulled, they were going for so much money on eBay that I could have sold them and retired.
I didn't even know about those. I still have a couple Kill Bill figures that look ok, but nothing special. But these 8" H8 figures look to be pretty cool.

2001 was released in Cinerama in the sixties so the logo was part of the film on all 70mm prints.

Love the score. I think Mr Morricone will win his first Oscar for it.

We know 2001 was released in Cinerama some 70mm prints did not have the Cinerama logo on , In place it had IN 70MM for prints shown
on a flat screen. The DVD , BD and the new 70mm Mag and DTS prints have the Cinerama logo.
If you have the DVD or BD of Ice Station Zebra it also has the In Cinerama logo in the front credits.

Knowing QT and his film fetish, I wouldn't be surprised if the 70mm roadshow version is forever a film exclusive. I share his enthusiasm for celluloid, but unfortunately, not all of us are independently wealthy enough to buy prints.
