Plot: Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Part of Fox's X-Men movie universe, DEADPOOL hits theaters this February.

The character was kinda butchered in their X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie. But with the new timeline established in Days of Future Past they are having another go at the character. Ryan Renolds returns to the role.

I haven't really read anything with him, but I'm familiar with the character. This should definitely be quite the different spin on the comic book super hero movie as the character regularly breaks the fourth wall, and it is set be be a "hard R".

The trailer should drop tomorrow (well, later today), but they have put out their "trailer for a trailer", and have had a bit of fun with it.

I don't know anything about Deadpool but I liked that (and the costume too!).
Renolds and a few folks have been trying to get Fox to make DEADPOOL for a while now. They put together this test footage for the studio a while back. It leaked well over a year ago, and it (along with support from fans) has reportedly helped convince Fox to give it a go.

Anyway, here is the leaked test footage

Now, something like this I can get excited to see whereas The Fantastic Four, meh! It comes down to this simple principle - stay true to the character(s)!

Will be interesting to see if they show Reynolds' face.

Yes, they'll show it. There are set pictures of him with scared the scared-up face.

I'm in.

Deadpool is a very different character so hopefully this can provide a different film to match it. It will be nice to see a higher rated comic book movie as well.

I'll be there for the first showing on Friday. Hopefully, it won't be my first and last viewing of it in movie theater.

My spoiler-free review, which has been encapsulated below:

Out of all the heroes and villains in Marvel Comics' pantheon of characters, perhaps none is as irreverent as Deadpool, the smart-mouthed anti-hero cooked up by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza over 20 years ago. Now, 7 years after Deadpool's disappointing big screen debut in X-men Origins: Wolverine, we finally have a movie worthy of the character himself. Deadpool doesn't waste an R-rated minute establishing its sly tone, with director Tim Miller and screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick centering the story on Deadpool's (Ryan Reynolds, reprising his role as the titular "Merc with a Mouth") mission of vengeance against Ajax (Ed Skrein), the sadistic madman who not only granted Deadpool his self-healing mutant powers, but who also disfigured him horribly in the process. Unfortunately, the film's plot points are few and far between, especially once Deadpool's revenge scheme becomes a straightforward rescue mission after Ajax kidnaps the woman he loves (Morena Baccarin). On the plus side, Deadpool's comic book authentic look and its abundance of wise cracks, fourth-wall breaks and pop culture references more than make up for the lack of story. The final result is undoubtedly one of the most unconventional superhero films out there. But seeing as how Deadpool is just about the furthest thing from your conventional superhero, it's tough to ask for anything more.

Film Rating: 4 out of 5

To say I enjoyed this film is an understatement. I loved it! It was everything I hoped it would be. Without a doubt, so many jokes and references to pop culture, it will take several viewings to catch them all.

As I've posted before, I have sort of gotten burned out on the whole super hero movie genre; so it was a nice change of pace to see such a crudely humorous film after the 'oh so serious' super hero films of late. Basically, I think the time was right for a film like Deadpool.

It could have used a little bit more storyline as the plot of the film is just the barest of frameworks upon which to lay a relentless barrage of action, wise-cracks, and the complete destruction of the fourth wall. But it works, mostly on the basis of Ryan Reynolds completely inhabiting the role of Deadpool. Pop culture references abound in a film that is completely self-aware that it is a film. Particularly enjoyed the contrast between the mild manners of Colossus and the cynical, raunchy nature of Deadpool.

It is like the Jonah Hill/Seth Rogen/James Franco version of a super hero film, at least in some ways. (And that is a compliment.) I'd give it 3 out of 4 stars and recommend it to anyone who is interested in an action/comedy hybrid.

Now THIS is a different kind of superhero film! And I loved, loved, loved every minute of it! All of it! As the Rotten Tomatoes description states, it's fast, funny (VERY funny), and gleefully profane. This is NOT a superhero film for your 13-year-old. FAR from it. This film isn't just rated R, it's a hard R (pun intended). Hell, it probably barely escaped getting an NC-17 rating.

The Booth Bijou gives 'Deadpool' 4.5 out of 5 stars (a score of 90%). So far, it's my favorite movie released in 2016.

That said, and speaking of getting burned out on superhero films....

The theater in which we saw 'Deadpool' (the MARVELOUS Vintage Village Theater in Coronado, CA) only played two trailers before the film. The just-released 'Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justine' trailer and the 'Captain America: Civil War' trailer.

My reaction to both of them was "meh." They simply do not look like good films to me.

Mark, I saw both of those trailers in front of my viewing (and some others) and I really thought that they were mismatched for Deadpool, at least in terms of sensibilities. Kind of like seeing a James Bond trailer in front of an Austin Powers film. It just doesn't work very well. (I guess you could argue that the trailers are about retaining awareness, but it still seemed like a poor match.)
