One word, Tony.

Ugh.

==============

About the only thing I might suggest is going back with your modem hoping to get a different customer rep. And you could always try to climb the food chain (ask for a supervisor, etc.). No matter how big the company, I can't imagine having a customer service that negative.

On the line again right now. video-ing the call just in case it gets wacky again.

Already one oops.

The offer that I posted earlier actually is for new customers only, oh well.

Hah phone crapped out, so I missed when the rep told me she couldnt find my account because I called the wrong center even though I called the 800 number now I'm waiting to be connected to the correct center.

Ok after 34 minutes On the phone.

I was offered a bundle that would lower the bill a wHopping $10 for an agreed 2 years service.

I asked for less then 2 years even said 18 months.

She said the 2 years was the contract offer in the system..

When I said no thanks I'll have to think about cancelling.

She said would I like a $10 savings for 6 months.

Reluctantly I said sure.
Then when she couldnt get the program to work she put me on hold for a couple minutes.

When she came back she apolagized but the program wasn't working could we call you back.

Yeah why not.

So I will get a call either today or monday after noon.

I finally dumped Comcast.

ATT has begun offering what they call Gigapower here.

Up to 1 g of wifi streaming.

Thats more than I need so I chose 300mbps.

the price is $20+ cheaper after Comcast recently raised the price again for 75mbps to nearly $100.

Verizon will do "internet only" It's totally wireless, must be picking up a satellite signal. Gave me this thing they call a "hotbox", smaller than a deck of cards, that I can use anywhere, laptop picks up the wireless signal.

But wow, better have a really fat checkbook. The charges are amazing. I dropped them immediately after I got my first bill.

Have you looked into ATT Gigapower? It is Internet only for 1G up and 1G down for $70/month. I am
very fortunate to have Google Fiber. I had TWC for years and they just kept increasing the price. My
last bill was $150 for Basic TV and Basic Cable. No phone or any other plan. When I tried to get them
to lower my bill I would get "well you are getting excellent value for your money". And I had been a
customer for over 20 years. I just hung up and waited for Google Fiber to come into my area and couldn't
be happier.

The reason I mention ATT Gigapower is they are in direct competition to Google Fiber with the same
cost and speed. The last I read was that Google Fiber wasn't coming to Orlando soon. But I would
still sign up on their website to have them notify you when it will become available.

Sorry. Never mind. I missed your post about Gigapower.

You won't get 1 Gig over Wifi. You will have 1G over your main line to the ethernet
to your computer. I get around 150 M/sec over my Wifi.

I think you are talking about Verizon Wireless, and that would be expensive for your primary internet as they are using cell towers. Verizon the landline company (Frontier in some places) offers DSL or Fios fiber Internet in some areas it covers. I have Frontier FIOS 30/30 (30Mbps up, 30Mbps down) which is plenty fast for basic web surfing and some streaming (DirecTV on demand). I pay $35/month.

Went with Verizon after a friend recommended it. She pays a similar rate like yours.

Apparently they saw a rube walk in the door and pulled the classic bait & switch, never knew what I was really getting into. I actually trust people, but with this, I refuse to pay the bill, don't even care if they turn it over to a collection agency.

I'm kind of a techy guy, worked with this kind of stuff for decades, but they certainly snuck this one in and got me.

I just got my first bill and it had last months, plus this months (as they bill in advance), plus install, so it was steeper than normal.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but how could you possibly get by on 1G. I don't do any streaming or major downloads, yet my Verizon setup started at 6G, which was used up within a week, then offered 12G for another $20, then $15 per G beyond that. Mentioned this earlier in another thread, but was billed over $600 for the five weeks of service I had until cancelling.

Now back with CenturyLink, only 3Mbs, but a hell of a lot cheaper and no limits on how much I use it.

Latest Verizon bill just added another $365, just for the phone. Internet and phone haven't been used in over a month since I cancelled. I may actually file a lawsuit and go to court over this. Almost $1000 billed since mid December?

I am talking about upload and download speeds of 1g/sec. Most cable is pretty petty at only
20-40 m/sec. Fios is a bit higher but Google and now ATT have the fastest upload and
download speeds unless you are on a dedicated line. As far as storage well currently
I have 30 Terabytes and growing.

Thought speeds like that were only available in places like South Korea. Guess it depends on where you live, we certainly can't get that speed in my city.

30 Terabytes? Who possibly needs that much space?

That's the beauty of Google Fiber and now ATT's new plan. Over fiber they can get even faster
speeds but it really is moot since most of the web sites you visit aren't on that type of line. It
does work great with Netflix and Amazon streaming in HiDef.

I store a lot of videos. They take up a lot of space.:)

My Verizon story continues...

They've agreed to settle for $365. Phone was already paid for, they're still asking for five weeks of service. They won't provide any documentation on things, and it's better than the $1000+ they originally charged me.

I'm not a smart-phone user, it's strictly an extra number and a phone I carry with me when traveling. I had maybe four hours of "talk time" on the phone, no downloads, no apps, no movies, etc.

We're at war and I refuse to budge.

Sorry if this strayed a bit off topic.

When I was serving at a US Airbase, I have to choose between 186$ service and 102$ service (with basic tv service). At the time, I was using the internet to open facebook or use WhatsApp or an ESPN channel and no internet was available. While searching on google, I found about cheapinternet and freedompop, who were claiming a 5$ internet, which is a hoax in terms of marketing strategy, (seriously, someone should tell those guys, appearing on page1, providing reliable internet is much more than just #1 rankings. I was left with few option). I was thinking about getting shared internet with my neighbors, as he was not using much of its bandwidth. Random internet services were not an option, as only a few were allowed inside the base. I was not able to access to the base to see what I want to see. I contacted my direct supervisor (who was a Lieutenant Colonel), he told some interesting things. There was a Verizon cable passing nearby, if I have the physical connectivity, I can use the internet with a router and login information from the IT guy (who happened to be my best friend). For next 3 years, I was having free internet without any hustle. But, after 3 years, an audit team find about it and I was forced to pay 1-month pay (it was 7000$). lol. At that time, there was a 'Cox' service for 15.99$ and I have easily got it. This happened at http://militarybases.co/directory/hanscom-air-force-base-in-bedford-ma/ and also, my promotion was due in a month (at the time of the incident) but it was delayed for 2 more years.

My war with Verizon continues. Although I should actually call it a non-war since I'm not participating. Credit rating took a ding, but I don't care, I'm not going to fold. They are thieves and I'm not paying.

Seriously, $1100 for five weeks of service. No downloads, no movies, no internet, maybe ten hours of phone calls. They can go to hell.

They did agree to settle for $300-$500 or so, but not a chance. Once they come back to reality, maybe I'll consider. I thought AT&T was the worst, but Verizon is now at the top of the "Avoid at all Times" list.

My best internet connection was with Comcast, horrible company but they did have really good service. However, dealing with their employees is painful, they're worse than a typical "government" employee who couldn't give a rat's ass because they're protected.

Oddly, I love Dish Network. Constantly rated as one of the worst for customer service, but I've been with them for almost ten years. They've been wonderful. Extremely helpful if anything goes wrong, new remotes and receivers if one fails, true "English speaking" CSRs, always fixed any issue and answered all questions, yet they are consistently rated one of the worst. Maybe just lucky, but never had a problem with them.

Went with their 3 in 1 setup, TV, phone, internet. TV is great, but they contract out the rest of it. You may think you're getting Dish service, but it's really CenturyLink, so their guaranteed high speed is really DSL through another vendor (it's there in the teeny, tiny fine print). I'm about ready to start piggy-backing off my neighbors, $78 a month for internet access is ridiculous.

Bundling is annoying, but somewhat better than other options available locally. (Unfortunately).

For internet-only, not much local options other than dialup service on a "slow" modem.

Nowadays I only bother with a minimal bundle:

- generic tv networks + basic cable channels (ie. no premium channels)
- basic phone (ie. no other functionality)
- internet service (ie. basic flat rate)

(Basic cable channels like scifi, etc ...).

Hopefully within the next 6 months, I will be moving to a city where I can get 100Mb/s internet for about $10 less than I currently pay for 6Mb/s.
