Regarding the Touchpad, I use Touchfreeze software to disable its functionality, which at least eliminates one issue. I use a wireless mouse, instead. Beyond that, I usually use an external USB Keyboard, especially as for some unknown reason, a few of the keys on my Laptop don't work! Thankfully, I actually prefer using the external, and just use the built in one for certain applications.

While it's been a couple of years since I installed the Touchfreeze software (Which is free!), I seem to recall having had some similar problems that you've been experiencing. My wrists would be forever grazing the edge of the Keypad, which caused no end of annoyances, and of course, having Windows 8 didn't help matters, either! Perhaps just installing this will eliminate most, if not all of your current keyboard issues?

Good Luck!

CHEERS! :)

I'll take a look at that. For now I'm kind of keeping my fingers in the air, just allowing my fingertips to touch the laptop. Still having these bizarre font size changes, but at least not as many.

It's so strange, they'll drop down to what is literally microscopic, other times go way up. HTF screen may show as only a gigantic "FOR". The Home theater and the "um" are there, just off in other directions, to big to fit on the screen. A web-site page will also shrink to the size of a postage stamp. Sometimes it will start changing sizes, I'll pull my hands away and it keeps going on its own, almost like it's storing up keystrokes.

HTF and my email are usually salvageable. Things don't go to a draft folder, but I'll get the size back to normal and find the post still there, just grayed out, but I can get it back. Some other sites, nothing, the post is just gone. Just occurred to me, but never happens when using Facebook. Currently baffled, but I will figure this out.

My computer frustration dropped significantly when I abandoned Windows PCs for a Mac. If it weren't for my office computer at work, I wouldn't have any need to keep up with Windows at all.

That may be the way to go. Worked with Windows based equipment for 30+ years, clear back to Windows 3.1? "Windows for Workgroups", NT, Windows 95 and all the oldies Horrible systems, not until Windows 98 was there finally some stability.

Only used a Mac once, bought it for the company so we could check how our web pages worked, but may be the best solution.

Over the years (at home and at work) I have used 3.1, 95, 98, 98SE, 2000, XP, NT 4.0, Server 2003, Server 2008 and Win 7. I put parallels on my Macbook Pro and installed a copy of Win 8.1 Pro but haven't had the need to use it in over 6 months. My job is the only thing keeping me tied to Windows.

With the Windows 8 and 10 editions, I've found the Ctrl Key to be a real nemesis, at times! Sometimes, what'll happen is I'll be in the middle of, or even finishing up a post when I accidentally press the Ctrl instead of the Shift Key, which then takes me right out of my entered text! I've lost a number of posts that way, though thankfully with HTF's current setup, I'm able to recover what I've entered by pressing the back arrow in my Browser!

CHEERS! :)

In the last few days since the latest Windows 10 update, I've been noticing a lot of page loading issues on my Acer PC Laptop, in which the page will either take forever to load, or else a variation of "Page Cannot Be Displayed" keeps popping up. I'm really getting tired of seeing that Google Chrome Dinosaur in place of the page I'm trying to access! I've also encountered this on my other two browsers, so this isn't a Google Chrome only issue. I'm also encountering a lot of blank webpages!

Since my Laptop's Network Card is shown to be working properly in my Device Manager, and I haven't encountered any issues with my Windows XP based Dell Desktop PC (Which I'm using to type this post!), which is connected by Ethernet, I'm wondering whether the problem with my Acer Laptop might be either driver based, or else some sort of handshake issue that's recently developed between our Cogeco WiFi Modem and my Laptop's Network card? This problem is intermittent, but frequent! :P

Any ideas?

Edit: OK, resetting the WiFi Modem appears to have helped, in this case!

CHEERS! :)

Haven't you posted almost this exact comment in numerous threads in the past?

If this were a thread about "what computer to buy" I could see the value but I'm not really seeing the value of it in a thread dedicated to Windows 10 information/education.

I use a lot of Apple products and I also happen to use Windows. I find in the end it all comes down to knowledge.
If you know how to use your tools properly things will go well, if you don't you can always blame the tool.

The Ctrl Key has also turned out to be my nemesis. I don't use a mouse, just the touchpad, but wow, just brush the Ctrl Key or even look at it and things change. I still lose posts once in a while, but I'm learning to type with my wrists in the air, not laying on the keyboard/touchpad like I used to do.

A lot of stuff can be recovered, but here comes my attitude: "Why should I have to try and recover my post, my text, my writing in a document just because of another Microsoft OS and its quirks?"

Gets really annoying at times.

A quick add-on to my earlier post.

Is Microsoft Edge a browser? I find it incredibly annoying and just enter msn.com then get back to normal, running what I thought was IE 10, yet going to the "More" menu, there's a choice of "Open with Internet Explorer".

I think I'll be returning to Firefox, much more user friendly, getting really tired of the "Microsoft runs the World" mentality.

Stuck with this laptop for a while, but hey, prices are constantly dropping, maybe time to make the switch to Mac.

I do have a curiosity about Windows 10. I used to see repeated Windows Update failures on XP, 7 and 8.1 where you search for updates but a random error is returned for which Microsoft rarely had a tech document. I lost track of the times I had to use the Windows Update Troubleshooter tool or make a registry change so Windows updates would work correctly again. Does this still happen with Windows 10 or is their updating system better than it used to be?

I finally installed Win10 on my main gaming rig in anticipation of moving to Nvidia Pascal and a 4k monitor after April 5th into. So far mostly good, only thing I can't get working is Dolby Digital / DTS over SPDIF, apparently it's a known issue. Once I move to HDMI it shouldnt be an issue.

Seriously, listen to the last 10 minutes of this if not the whole thing.

So so so right about the wrong left turn Microsoft continues to make against consumers. Yes Win10 is better but you can see the priorities at play here that continues to bog them down, the masters they have to answer to that put the consumer in the back seat.

Had the same thing happen many times. On FB, HTF, even basic email, suddenly everything just vanishes. Don't know if it's Windows 10 or my laptop, but really annoying.

Spend 4-5 minutes composing an email to a friend and "poof", it's just gone. I've gotten into the habit of doing a cut/copy/paste just in case things disappear.

I've just noticed that my already low Hard Drive space on my PC Laptop has gone down into the single GB digits, with at least 13 GB that I cannot account for, in terms of downloads or even recent Windows 10 updates.

I've checked my Temp Folder, and also Programs & Features, in case any unwanted programs somehow installed unbeknownst to me (Though I don't see how--I'm clearly desperately reaching for SOME answer/s, here!), to no avail!

Does anyone have any idea what may have caused this?

CHEERS! :)

EDIT: OK, my problem appears to be ridiculously HUGE (41.5 GB worth, with one over 22 GB, and another over 17 GB!) System Volume Information Files that have somehow downloaded within the past few hours! Is this normal, and are they safe to remove? I just find it hard to imagine needing ALL of that space just for bloody sys inf files!! ARGH!!!! :(

By the way, it was a free program called TreeSize Free that I downloaded, that revealed the culprit of my rapidly disappearing HDD space! I wholeheartedly recommend this, as in my opinion, it's well worth the price! :D

This is an extension of my previous post. Basically, Windows 10 won't allow me to delete either of the two huge files in question! I believe these downloaded in error, perhaps because of some shadowing that's run amok! Much as I like Windows 10, it pisses me off that they make such a headache out of deleting obviously unnecessarily huge sys inf files that in my opinion, do little more than clog up the Hard Drive!

Double ARRGGHH!!!! :angry::angry:

Tony, I'm thinking these are the files for system restore points. You should be able to adjust your system to not keep so many around. Here's a link which may help: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1813658/reduce-size-system-volume-information-folder.html
Hi David!

Thank you very much for posting this, and I'm definitely going to look into it a bit later.

What I don't get is why it built up like crazy, all of a sudden, as I don't remember changing anything in my settings! Checking the date and time for the 2 massive files revealed that this near 40 GB buildup literally happened inside of 2 hours late last night! I most certainly want to put an end to that!

I'll let you know what happens. Thanks again!

EDIT: I reconfigured the maximum percentage of my Hard Drive from 17% to 5% (The smaller percentage seems more typical, based on some examples that I've seen!), which freed up some much valuable real estate! :)

CHEERS! :)

Tony

Hate to quote myself, but the problem is just "gone". Don't know if it was one of those mystery "behind the scenes" MS or Toshiba updates, but everything is fine.

Really liked Windows 10 at first, but starting to get really annoyed. Does everything have to be "online"?

Was bored waiting for a friend visiting her doctor. Thought I'd play a few quick games of FreeCell. With this gigantic hard-drive, it's got to be there somewhere. But nope. Everything I tried took me online, I couldn't even do a basic file search to find the executable on the drive. I know it's there, I used it before.

Yet even a file search seems to be edited so you can only see what MS wants you to see. How about let me be the judge of what I can and can't see.

It is in the Microsoft Solitaire Collection, so if you search for solitaire and click on Microsoft Solitaire Collection, you can get to it. Unfortunately, it doesn't come up if you search for FreeCell.
