This afternoon, I was able to update to the latest Windows 10 build, which took less than 90 minutes, without a hitch!

While I have a lot more checking to do, the first noticeable benefit is my MPC Player now displays Full Screen, with NO overscan-like edge cutting! :)

I have encountered something that might be interpreted as slightly strange:

While after my initial Windows 10 November upgrade, the year 2016 was displayed, this reverted back to 2015 AFTER the second install/update!

My System Info After The Initial Upgrade (Note The 2016 Year Of Copyright):

Windows 10 November OS Upgrade (Cropped).png

My System Info After The Follow Up Update (Note The Year Of Copyright Has Reverted To 2015):

Windows 10 November OS Upgrade 2 (Cropped).png

Despite the above, the changes in the OS clearly (To me!) remain, though I seem to be unable to pull anything regarding specific build numbers.

While the latest Windows 10 update appears to have fixed the issue that I had with Video Image cropping on the Leawo Blu-ray Player and Media Player Classic platforms, it seems to have created a new one for me.

I have a number of Programs/Folders pinned to my Taskbar for quick and easy access. For some unknown reason, since applying the November update, I now have to minimize whatever screen I'm on AFTER clicking on the Program/Folder in order for its display to be visible to me, as opposed to hiding behind whatever other application (IE. Viewing HTF on Google Chrome Browser!) I'm using. As an example, if I want to check out something on one of my Media Players for comparison with a relevant HTF posting, I have to first minimize my HTF page in order to view the Media Player, rather than conveniently have both of them simultaneously visible to me! Not exactly convenient, especially when whatever I'm doing requires an excessive amount of what should otherwise be unnecessary toggling! :P

Does anyone on here know of any solution to what I've described above? If so, I would greatly appreciate being enlightened regarding this! :)

CHEERS! :)

P.S. Though this occurred prior to my applying the November update, I STILL don't get red underlining for incorrect spelling when I make posts on this, and other Forums! This for me, is incredibly frustrating, as I have to be that much more eagle eyed in spotting them, myself! Any feedback regarding potential solutions to this problem would also be greatly appreciated!

Tony, Just curious. Did you install Windows 10 over Windows 7 or 8 and then go back and do a clean install of 10?

That's what I did, and I only had 2 programs (of little consequence) that wouldn't run under 10. All my previous programs and drivers have worked fine.

Everything else, including all the updates released so far, haven't caused me any issues.

I'm still holding off installing 10 on my other PC's for a while. I may even wait until next summer.

I had to reinstall Windows 10 and now some programs load slower and it takes to long to open up a photo! It is crazy but there should be a simple fix for this. Before this everything was running great under Windows 10.

Hi Reed!

No clean installs. I simply upgraded from Windows 8.1.

AFAIK, all of my programs still run, though for some unknown reason, I don't get the Red Underlining prompt for incorrect spelling on any of the Forums that I participate in, though this does work on Google Search and my old Microsoft Word program. Frankly, I'm quite bothered by this and am rather surprised at not having been able to find this particular issue reported by anyone else! I really desperately want the Red Underlining back, as it is now a real sonofabee to have to proofread EVERY word without that handy prompt, but I have no clue as to why I've lost it or how to go about getting it back?

Any thoughts regarding the above?

Tony,

Sorry, I can't help you with the "Red Underlining prompt for incorrect spelling".

I've only done 2 Windows 10 upgrades. Both have been clean installs. Both started as upgrades from Windows 7 (just to get the PC registered with MS), then I put the Windows 10 disc back in the DVD drive and did a clean install. Everything wiped and started from scratch, re-installing all needed programs.

IMHO, the clean install is the way to go if you want the least amount of problems cropping up down the line.

Hi Reed!

I was actually afraid that might be the case, as in all my years using PC's, I've quite literally NEVER heard nor read about this happening to anyone else. It appears that I've run into a real obscurity, here! As I've stated, the Red Underline prompt DOES still work when I type for Google Search (Though, not for Bing.com!) and when I'm on Microsoft Word; it just doesn't for posts I make in ANY Forum!

OK, in the middle of my typing this post, I decided to try Bing Search on Internet Explorer instead of Google Chrome and, lo & behold, the Red Underline prompt DOES come up! Therefore, this appears to be something related to my Google Chrome Browser!

I just have to figure out what setting/extension within my Google Chrome Browser is the culprit? That's something to go on, at least!

One solution that might help is a feature previously available on W7 but now greatly enhanced under W10.[Don't know about win8 since I never used it]

While on Chrome [or any other open maximized app] place your mouse pointer right next to the 'new tab' button, grab web page and drag it to either left or right side of your monitor's edge, page will minimize to half screen and you'll see minimized windows of all opened apps in your task bar on the other half of the screen, pick the app you need and it will now maximize to half screen for easy comparison between web pages/apps..

I used this feature a lot under W7 to compare or work with folders from different media for example, also my Logitech mouse's side thumb wheel/software used to do a kind of 'open program scroll' that was a time saver, looks like W10 is now combining both features.

The previous issue with having to toggle between Google Chrome pages/My Taskbar Pinned programs seems to have solved itself.

Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for the lack of Red Underline prompt for Forum based posts, such as this one. I've eliminated unwanted Chrome extensions, changed a couple of settings, to no avail! Yet, I don't have this same problem with Internet Explorer, which I nevertheless, only like to use sparingly these days, so for me, this incorrect spelling prompt not working in Google Chrome is a massive inconvenience!

I may have to resort to the old uninstall/reinstall Google Chrome routine and hope that works!

P.S. It didn't work D*MNIT!!

OK, I had to go into Google Chrome Language and input settings under Languages and check mark "Use this language for spell checking" beside English (United States) to finally fix the spell check issue!

How this ever became unchecked when it's buried in the GC settings, I'll never know?

Bought a new laptop, pre-installed with Windows 10, not an upgrade. I'm getting used to it little by little.

Any advice on a basic tutorial? It's really fast, love it. Yet at the same time can be incredibly annoying. Just touch the wrong key or the touch pad and the font, screen-size, etc. changes. Finally figured out control/+- to straighten that out. Actually had to change browsers until I got the size thing cleared up, and even that was by accident.

Nothing fancy, but play FreeCell once in a while. It's on the laptop, I've done it, but now can't find it, everything I do takes me online to play the game. Ugh.....

Probably has a basic tutorial built in, but it's not like the older version of Windows we all expect.

If you haven't done it before, you could use the free trial at lynda.com to watch some Windows 10 training videos.

Thanks, I'll take a look. It has to be better than just diving in blind.

Used Windows products for 30+years, but Windows 10 is a big adjustment. Were I still in the iT world, probably not bad, but I've been Joe Consumer and haven't kept up on things for a while.

I'm really starting to hate computers. Don't know if it's Windows 10 or my laptop having the most sensitive keyboard ever invented.

Font/screen size changes, or I'll type up a message to post and it just vanishes. Just look at the touchpad and things change. Don't breathe or dare to touch it, the screen will change to a gigantic font where a single word fills the screen. Ugh...

Web sites are fine, but our local newspaper will not work. I'm guessing it's a problem on their end. Cursor doesn't work, the right hand scroll bar is the only way to move, even with that, have to keep moving the cursor to different positions to move through the site. Out of all the sites I visit, the local news is the one that fails.

That certainly doesn't sound normal. Not sure if it is the settings in Windows 10 or your new laptop.
I'm more of a Mac user, but work moved me to a Surface Pro 4 with Win10 to replace an aging Dell laptop with Windows 7.
I like it a lot! I picked up David Pogue's "10: The Missing Manual" to get me up to speed on the changes of the operating system.
It might be just the thing for you.

Regarding the Touchpad, I use Touchfreeze software to disable its functionality, which at least eliminates one issue. I use a wireless mouse, instead. Beyond that, I usually use an external USB Keyboard, especially as for some unknown reason, a few of the keys on my Laptop don't work! Thankfully, I actually prefer using the external, and just use the built in one for certain applications.

While it's been a couple of years since I installed the Touchfreeze software (Which is free!), I seem to recall having had some similar problems that you've been experiencing. My wrists would be forever grazing the edge of the Keypad, which caused no end of annoyances, and of course, having Windows 8 didn't help matters, either! Perhaps just installing this will eliminate most, if not all of your current keyboard issues?

Good Luck!

My computer frustration dropped significantly when I abandoned Windows PCs for a Mac. If it weren't for my office computer at work, I wouldn't have any need to keep up with Windows at all.
