There is a question whether this is really a DVD release. We should have some clarification soon, but I'll be surprise if it remains a Blu-ray release.

The Amazon artwork (on the side view) shows that it is a DVD release, and IIRC, so does the TVShowsonDVD article.

Finally! Great to Lou Grant being released (escaping?)! I hope the next step is a full-series release. Would also like a full-series of St. Elsewhere. The full-series releases are about the only way we can be sure of getting them completed. My full-series purchases of shows that until then weren't completed include Cagney & Lacey, Cannon, The Equalizer, Hill Street Blues and WKRP in Cincinnati. Glad to have them all. I do have other full series, but they were shows that got completed via individual season releases.

This is good however I have already bought the first three seasons on iTunes.

I wonder how the quality will compare. I would buy it again if it were better. Only worry is that sales will be low as people already own it and we will never get releases of season four onwards.

I didn't see much of Lou Grant in syndication. Were there any music used in this series? In addition to WKRP in Cincinnati, I know The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Rhoda, and The Bob Newhart Show have some replacement done. I haven't seen mention of Newhart, so I am unsure of that one.

ED ASNER IS BACK AS THE VENERABLE NEWSMAN IN

LOU GRANT: SEASON ONE

AVAILABLE ON DVD FROM SHOUT! FACTORY

MAY 24, 2016

Los Angeles, California – In keeping with their reputation for delivering classic and previously unavailable television shows to fans, Shout! Factory has announced a May 24, 2016 release of the long-awaited Lou Grant: Season One. The 5 DVD set includes all 22 episodes of this quintessential show starring Ed Asner in his award-winning title role. Lou Grant: Season Oneincludes an exclusive new interview with Ed Asner.

Ed Asner reprises the indelible character he made famous on the classic sitcom The Mary Tyler Moore Show in Lou Grant: Season One. Co-starring Mason Adams (Omen III: the Final Conflict), Robert Walden (All The President’s Men) and Nancy Marchand (The Sopranos), the riveting Lou Grant ran for five seasons from 1978 to 1982 and set a high standard for all topic-oriented, serial dramas to come.

Having lost his job at WJM-TV’s news department, Grant leaves Minneapolis for the West Coast, where he takes over as the city editor for the Los Angeles Tribune. There, Grant guides his team of journalists through the constant challenges of the newspaper business. Exploring both the inner workings of the Tribune and the societal issues that influenced its readers, Lou Grant was an acclaimed program throughout its five seasons on network television.

The winner of 13 Emmy Awards and two Golden Globes,Lou Grant is notable for being a rare instance of a comedic television character making the transition to a dramatic series. Asner himself was the first person to win Emmy Awards for both "Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series" and "Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series" for portraying the same character.

Season One of Lou Grant showcases a powerhouse ensemble and writing staff that made the show one of the most intelligent and noteworthy programs of its era.
