I've been curious if Twilight Time would have this one in their pipeline with the Goldsmith score isolated.
Oh, that would be great!!

I think I had asked them in the past, but I don't remember the reply.

I guess if they had replied positively I would have remembered.

Please be advised that the German Blu-Ray of Runaway is an international version, with about 30 seconds of topless hooker nudity that would have pushed it out of PG-13 territory in the US. I'd rather have that than an isolated score. :)

(Oh, and the transfer's decent, and the disc has a couple of trailers and a stills gallery. It's labeled Region B but sources say it's all regions, and with the Euro on par with the dollar now's a good time to scour the Amazons for deals.)

Now I'm hearing the scene was always there, but I have no recollection of it on either LD or DVD. You think I would...

Watched it on a 128" screen ( 2:35 ) and it does look quite good, at least to my amateur eyes! It had it's moments though not what I would call a very well done film, certainly gave off that '80's vibe! And since I live near Vancouver where it was shot it was great to see a few scenes from back then, when the city, like most, had much less density.

It has that 80s vibe in spades. Looked good on my 110" screen, too.

My question: Is it all-region?

Rick, my copy arrived today. Haven't watched it all the way through yet, but did test it on both my Region A and B players and it loads and runs fine on both.

Not sure about Region C support, but if your main interest is that it works in Region A, I can confirm that it does.

Michael Crichton's tech thriller certainly doesn't look very cutting edge today, but RUNAWAY is cheezy 80s fun. Crichton includes elements here that have become more or less commonplace today such as drones, domestic robots, the internet, social media, hand-held computers etc.. It wasn't a huge production, but, the tech feels more realistic that in many films where everything tries so hard to look “futuristic”.

Tom Sellick (Jack) is a cop who specializes in rogue robots, and his partner is Thompson (Cynthia Rhodes). When a robot kills a couple of people, Jack and Thompson investigate. The trail leads to a Dr. Luther (Gene Simmons), who, it turns out, has been re-programming bots for a fiendish plot! Kirstie Alley plays a secretary who gets held hostage by a robot. I had the pleasure of working with Kirstie on a pair of TV projects. RIP.

Crichton the Director was never as talented as Crichton the writer (only WESTWORLD really works of his pure SF efforts) and RUNAWAY is not really any different. There is suspense, but, it never really gets tense outside of a few stray stock moments. The cast is good and Simmons has a field day chewing up the scenery (something I got to witness first hand on the set of 1985's NEVER TOO YOUNG TO DIE).

RUNAWAY is a decent eighties flashback matinee flick.

RUNAWAY is currently available to stream (with ads) on Tubi, Crackle and Fubu. You can rent it for about $3 at all the usual outlets. It's also available on a Sony DVD and a Spanish Blu Ray

I wish this could come to 4K bluray, with a 4k scan of the original negative!
So many bad movies are released that way, why not this? ;)

Yeah, I don't understand how this one has never even come out on regular Blu Ray in this country. And, it's a Columbia / Tri-Star film so you'd think the elements would be there.
