Yes, bought in April

I got a 2014 Samsung 85" have added the the upgrade box adding HDR and 10bit
bought a Roku 4 to add additional 4K streaming options
preordered the Samsung UHD Player to hold me over until Oppo comes out
Preordered 7 UHD disks
11 UHD downloads including Maze Runner: Scorch Trials in HDR/10bit

So all in lots of content and a huge upgrade from 1080p in my eyes.
Good for you!

My position is now: when I can get 100" 4K display for under $5000, I'll buy.

I have no particular plans on replacing my 50" living room set; if I needed to replace it, I'd go 4K. But it still works fine.

Doesn't look like the emojis are working on the forum yet.

I have been looking at the Samsung and Sony 4K Ultra HD sets. I just wish that LG would come out with
a 4K OLED model in the $2K range. The LG 2K OLED has one of the best pictures I've ever seen on a monitor.

Not enough 4k content to justify....by the time sufficient 4k content is available, the one I'd buy in 2015 would probably be several model years old.
Not only that, 8k will most likely quickly follow.

For 2016 the TV system has been completely redesigned and 8K will use the same system. So all 8K will do is help with ultra large screens, 240" and larger. As we know the new TV system enhances 4K to include HDR, WCG, 10-bit panels and PQ gamma. 8K will use all of the advancements and standards of the new 4K HDR protocols.

I expect Sony to allow dealers to list the UPP in the next week.

Here I am with an older model Samsung 55 inch ultra hd that I sit close to. I was going to spring for the new Samsung ultra hd blu-ray player.. But since my hd tv does not have hdr and it seems several other of these new advancements I have decided to hold off spending the cash at this time. I watched The Martian in 3d last night on my Oppo and I just can't imagine it could be any better. So I'll just bide my time and see how all this shakes out.

Smart. As it stands (and having seen it), I don't consider UHD sets an upgrade. On most sets, it looks as good as 1080p. Tech specs aside, you might notice a difference on a 55" set if you stick your face about 3 feet from the screen...maybe squint a bit too. And, as you've discovered, most UHD sets that people have paid for are now arguably obsolete, since they don't have 2.2.2., HDR, and whatever. Since any PQ improvements are not noticeable on screens below, say, 65", I personally don't see the need to rush out and get one. And if/when I do, if it doesn't have 3D, it's still "no sale."

Totally agree with you ^^ regarding resolution. 4K by itself does very little to enhance the picture quality. But HDR, WCG, 10-bit panels and PQ gamma are a significant image quality upgrade.

Any and all HTF members and guests are encouraged to stop by a good a/v specialty store or even better, our a/v showroom to see 4K HDR properly set-up. Now with Ultra HD BD and even streaming 4K with HDR the time has come for high-performance video in our homes.

Hope you can get a good demo of the new 2016 TV system in a good showroom so you can see the advancements that HDR, WCG, 10-bit panels and PQ gamma have brought to video displays. The last redesign of the TV system was 1998 with HDTV.
