m GF's father's b-day is coming up and he requested 3D discs with roller coasters and car racing. . .assuming he wants them shot in POV. i've turned him on to 3D and have bought him plenty of the vintage material. that is actually cool since i get to support those releases with double purchases.

but in regards to the header, i've scoured the big sites and most (if anything) of what i saw was non-polarized DVD offerings.

haven't posted here in a while. figured this would be the place to ask.

any insight is appreciated.

thanks.

There is a roller coaster POV sequence in Man in the Dark (a Twilight Time 3D release), but the film was shot quickly and on the cheap, so they used rear projection with the actors in front of the screen to simulate the roller coaster experience. Better than nothing, I guess, but not quite the immersive coaster feel you're probably looking for.

The German release: Best of 3D Vol. 7-9 (Region Free) has a 12 min 52 sec "roller coaster" ride in strong 3D. It includes an optional DTS-HD 5.1 English Audio track.

Car racing: The Need For Speed (2014) (Hong Kong version is Region A) (Original English DTS-HD MA 7.1 audio track), has IMO, a quality 3D conversion.

I'll go ahead and order these. Hopefully, they'll play with no issues. Much appreciated!

I thought of that sequence immediately when the GF told me what he wanted. We both have that title (his was a gift from us).

On 3-D Rarities there are examples of both (a ride across the George Washington Bridge and a rollercoaster)

For live-action, there is a good motorcycle racing documentary called TT3D: Closer to the Edge (region free from Australia). I wish it includeded longer sequences of POV 3D racing, but the little there is quite fun.

For animation, Cars, Cars 2, Turbo, and Wreck-It Ralph have racing. There is a roller coaster sequence in Despicable Me.

I would recommend 3D Rarities. It has a great early 3D rollercoaster sequence. On a huge screen, I really felt as if I were in the car.

thanks for the continued recommendations. we have actually purchased two copies of 3D rarities, one of which was given to him for xmas. :)

the german disc is on its way as I type this.

ironically, one thing her father always complains about in regards to 3D is the lack of pop-out effects that extend outside the screen. low and behold i just recently finished watching my copy of comin' at ya. needless to say, i'm ordering a copy for him.
