Hopefully it gets to the point where Trapper John, M.D. will be released this way (or any way, FTM [for that matter]). I'll be on Amazon to get it if it does.

Yes, the reason I found the listing was that when I saw they were releasing Cop Rock, I was motivated to check some of the stalled Fox titles, as well as some of the titles that are really inexplicably still unreleased. None of the other ones showed up, but Lou Grant was there. I hope they get all five seasons out, and it doesn't turn into a "Rhoda" situation.

Wow. What a week...first the news of more Newhart, and now this. Combine those with the forthcoming completion (albeit not in Region 1) of L.A. Law and Picket Fences, and it looks like 2016 will actually be a good year for getting Fox-owned shows. (Hard to believe...)

I agree. I'd feel better if they released a complete series set and then put out the individual seasons. But at this stage of the TV on DVD/Blu-ray game, I'm just glad to see ANY movement with this series.

A personal aside - Season 1 had my favorite opening credits sequence out of the 5, showing the life cycle of a newspaper from tree to birdcage filler.

This is definitely cool news. Loved this show as a kid--was an aspiring journalist. As far as I know, its only other appearance on home release was two single episodes on VHS in the early 1990s.

It won't be on Blu. This is most likely just a common early info mistake that will be corrected when it's officially announced.

If you'll recall, Amazon Canada had the complete Bilko listed as Blu almost until it was released.

You're right. The Amazon page now has artwork, and the spine specifies that it's a "5 DVD Set".

A Blu-ray would have been nice, but I'll gladly take the DVD.

And I just now saw that Lou Grant first-season artwork. I think it illustrates very well what Lou Grant was about.

Very welcome classic release, super Shout! news regardless of studios involved. It'd be nice if things opened up regarding the Fox archive, most of what I want though tends to be rarer titles like Hagen, Hong Kong, Lancer and Judd For The Defense. But Shout! will stall classic TV titles they deem poor sellers (though these particular four examples are all short-lived thus manageable), no need to get any hopes up just yet.

Very glad for this release but let's hope it's not a one and done and they finish it and it doesn't end up becoming another Welby or Room 222. I am also not going to drink the proverbial Kool Aid and let myself believe Fox's vaults are all of a sudden going to be flung open. Keep in mind that This release is a lot more in Shout's wheelhouse than many of the other titles we are clamoring for (Peyton Place, 12 O Clock High, Judd, and some of the other one/two season 60's stuff). Shout is primarily focusing on 70's and later (mostly LATER lately) and Lou Grant fits that bill more so than some of the other aforementioned titles we are after. I will say that this does me a modicum of hope (albeit a very small one) for the other major FOX show of that era that remains unreleased.... Trapper John MD

I'm also psyched for this release but not overly optimistic about future seasons. Another critical favorite of the seventies, Police Story, stalled out after one season on DVD.

Well, it's about time. I've been waiting on this one for a very long time. I hope they finish it. I would have preferred a complete series set just to be finished with it in one swoop, but I'll be on board for a season by season release.

That definitely needs to be a part of this! As I've said before, the dry spell on that is reaching a decade, and may indeed have gotten there.

Good to see LOU GRANT get a DVD release. The episodes for the first three seasons have been floating around places like HULU for a few years. In fact, my wife and I watched all of those during the year we got HULU for free with our TV purchase. The episodes looked like they were all there and whole, and for the most part looked pretty decent - as if it were given a decent-enough remaster at some point in time.

I think I recall a few episodes that looked pretty bad, as thought they hadn't seen the remastering department.

I'm likely in for this one. I always liked this show, even though as we watched it a year or so ago, we remarked to each other just how incredibly out of date the story-setting is. Here we have a major metropolitan newspaper - all of who are now on life-support - with real reporters who type their stories on typewriters and have to rely on pay-phones.

All of those elements lend themselves to story elements - you just have to place yourself back in those days. That's an easy enough task for those of us who lived through that era. By season three, the reporters were at least using Video Display Terminal technology, which brings them into the electronic age.

Good show. I'm happy to see it get a hard-copy release.

Definitely. And perhaps we could finally have the final season of The White Shadow as well.
