The Alaskans rang a vague bell with me, but I can’t remember ever seeing it (if I did I’ve forgotten). It seems like a very strange choice to me. I hope Warner haven’t pressed a lot of copies, they may end up sitting on quite a few.
I was a bit bored by this, hardly any racing, mostly just Ferrari & mistress & his always angry wife. Obviously I was expecting a different film, so probably my fault. It did have a lovely look.
Ha, thank you. I was wondering how they could combine a timed dupe element with an untimed original negative. This has made me even more curious as to how they have achieved an (apparently) great picture from a badly faded negative, the technology for doing this stuff must have come on in leaps...
I'd love to know more about the restoration, which I'm sure I will do in time. I just couldn't get on with the current Blu-ray, which I believe was made from from the b/w separation dupes, the original negative being faded beyond use. I'm thinking this new restoration (I think we can safely call...
I'd be astonished if there was any CRT scanners still working. All of the Rank Cintel Telecine machines I worked on for years were thrown into a skip decades ago. I think there was a bit of a shortage of 65mm gates for film scanners, but I wouldn't think that's the case now.
Ha, a reply three...
Yup, I've waited so long for this film, & I thought, well when it does arrive at least the picture & sound will be top notch with all the technical improvements over the last few years...& maybe it will be, I very much hope so, but it's only Warner Archive releases where I'm quite happy to buy...
Yes, the same thing happens to me when I click any US Amazon link, it takes me to Amazon UK. It is annoying the general lack of technical info from the BFI regarding picture & sound on this release.
I can just about remember noticing the stereo sound when I saw this in a cinema in London's...
Well the first title I thought of was The Wild Bunch, & then Where Eagles Dare, & I think they're real possibilities. Thinking about other titles that I'd have to buy day one, I'm thinking about spectacles where a new 4K transfer would really shine (not so much Ben-Hur, I'd have to buy it, but...
I think it's a great remake. I've had the good looking German Blu-ray for some years now (Auf der Flucht), I see it's still available, & only 8 euros. There was some disappointment at the time of release that it was the censored version (the lovely Kim still gets her kit off, but not as much as...
Ha, I’m going to be more optimistic & say, the first 4K Peckinpah.
Actually, thinking about it, it’s the second, we have Cross Of Iron in 4K, but from what I’ve seen of it (just caps I’m afraid), I don’t like the route they’ve gone down with the picture, so it’s a pass for me.
I’d think the plan was to release this last year, the 50th Anniversary year, but with all the work involved, came in a bit late. So far this is the front runner for my release of the year.:)
