X360 HD-DVD Drive on my PC. Will it work???

I'm so sorry to post another 360 HD-DVD Drive -> PC question, but I really must know if this will work! I just saw Bourne Ultimatum and now I MUST re-watch the previous Bourne movies in HD!!! =)

Anyways, here's what I have:

- PC with Windows XP
- Pentium 4
- Dell 2407wfp (it is HDCP compliant via DVI and can support resolutions up to 1920 x 1200
- ATI Radeon 9600 (http://ati.amd.com/products/radeon96...pro/specs.html)

I want to get the 360 drive, hook it up via the USB2.0, and then watch HD-DVDs on my monitor. My main problem is that my video card is probably not powerful enough (it's several years old). I'm pretty sure it's not HDCP compliant, but will I still be able to watch the HD-DVD at all? If so, what resolution will it be in?

I mean, eventually, I want to get the X360 itself (in which case, I'll hook it up straight to my LCD via HDMI->DVI), but for now, I just want to know if I can watch HD-DVDs on my monitor with my current set up...

Thanks so much for any help and advice!

PS On a side note, I also have a new Macbook Pro, if that helps any... although I did read in most places that the 360 HD Drive doesn't work on the Mac yet...

Derek if you do a Google search for "Xbox 360 HD drive connected to a computer" you will find plenty of how to articles.

Hi Patrick,

Thanks for the tip, I will try using your search query (although I've done several google/forum searches already but haven't really found a solid answer yet, so I figure I'd ask the community my specific question).

Anyhow, I should have re-named my topic to something else. I'm sorry for the confusion but I'm mainly asking SPECIFICALLY about my video card and the lack of hdcp support. I'm unsure of what happens if I hook it up to a non-HDCP video card. Will there be no picture at all, or will I just have a non hi-def picture?

Sorry again and if you know any information about the above question, I'll be really appreciative! Thanks!

EDIT: After using the exact search string from you, Patrick, I was able to find this link: http://www.legitreviews.com/article/532/1/
It appears that without a HDCP compliant video card, I can only see 480i and 480p signals... What a bummer.

Just a bit of an update, for those that are in the same situation as me.

I spoke with ATI technical support just now, and it turns out, that with a DVI -> Component adapter, I will be able to output 1080i or 720p with a NON-HDCP compliant video card to my monitor (via component). That's great news! Granted, it won't be 1080p, but it's a big step up from 480p and it will definitely hold me over until I get the Xbox 360.
