Re: Xbox Live disconnecting and router firmware upgrade taking too long
Will the firmware upgrade take more than 2 hours?

Re: Xbox Live disconnecting and router firmware upgrade taking too long
The firmware upgrade should only take a few minutes.
Did you configure the router for Xbox live or did you just plug it in?

Re: Xbox Live disconnecting and router firmware upgrade taking too long
I had the same issue with wanting to use my 360 while my PC was on the DSL and I got a Netgear router for 50 bucks and it works great. The only time it seems to have an issue is if I am downloading something large at the same time I am on Xbox Live. I didn't think that would be an issue but it seems to be. Much cheaper than the 100 bucks, that is for sure. Good lucK!

Re: Xbox Live disconnecting and router firmware upgrade taking too long
Phil:
Can you tell me the model of your Netgear router? Btw, I am now looking for another router, a wired router. All my equipment is just in one room, thus I don't need or trust wireless. I'd like to have a router with 8-ports, but I was looking thru amazon.com, and I could not find many.
Another requirement here is that I am able to do huge downloads from the internet. I read this review at amazon.com where the reviewer bought this game D-link router, and he was having lots of trouble using or downloading torrent files which usually are big files. He explained that his connection froze most of the time.
Anyway, I think the Linksys BEFSR81, which has good reviews over the Internet is a piece of JUNK. I have no complain about the support I got from Linksys, but Linksys got me on my bad side. I don't think I ever buy another product from Linksys as long as I live.

orestes

Re: Xbox Live disconnecting and router firmware upgrade taking too long
I know you are probably gun-shy with Linksys, but I have the Linksys WRT54GS Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster. My PCs are both connected wirelessly, and my Xbox and Xbox360 are hardwired. I've had no problems with it at all, and the Xbox and Xbox360 required nothing more than plugging the ethernet cable in and the connection to the internet worked instantly. Setting up Windows Media Connect to stream my media to the Xbox360 was also problem free.

Re: Xbox Live disconnecting and router firmware upgrade taking too long
Bryan:
I will try to exchange the Linksys router tomorrow if it is possible. I am looking at a different brand of router for the exchange, a D-link router. At this point in time I can't find a 8-port router anywhere. Actually the D-link router I want has just 4 ports, and this does not make me very happy. Soon I will buy a PS3 and possible a Nintendo Wii, and then I will not have enough ports to connect all my equipment.
Currently I own a US PS2, a Japanese PS2 (both with HDs), and the Nintendo Cube. If I connect the laptop, desktop, and xbox 360 to a 4-port router, then I have one more port free. Where I am going to connect the newer stuff?
I don't like wireless networking, for I live in a small apartment and I prefer to have everything wired. I think a wired network is simpler than a wireless to set up.
Let me see what happens tomorrow at the CompUsa store where I will go to try to exchange the router.
I work with computers all day long, and I don't want to spend more working time at home than I have to. Linksys support was fine, but Linksys product sucks in my book.
Regards,
orestes
