Dark Forces question

I played Dark Forces back in the day (Sega Genesis methinks) and loved it! I was wondering if there were any other Star Wars FPS out there. I heard that DF was a series. Am I wrong? Any recommondations?

Dark Forces was followed by Jedi Knight. Jedi Knight had a mission pack called Mysteries of the Sith, and it got a proper sequel in Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. The next follow-up--Jedi Academy--will be released this month.

I don't think DF was ever available for the Genesis, but I could be wrong. Jedi Knight was only PC, I believe, but Jedi Knight II was on some of the consoles as well.

Dark Forces was released on the PC and PS1 in '95 and '96 respectively. It is indeed a series with Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II being released afterwards on the PC (along with the expansion mentioned above). The series then continued with the release of Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. The PC version was released first with subsequent XB and GC versions. The end of September will see the release of Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy for the PC (there is currently a demo). With an Xbox version set for release in November of this year. I hope that helps.

Nope. Here you go:

Dark Forces

Product page shows Playstation, PC and Mac. Checking a few other classic gaming sites turned up nothing as well. No release on any Sega console.

I do believe I know where the source of confusion is however. You may be thinking of Star Wars: Rebel Assault which was in fact released for the Sega CD. (Its sequel Rebel Assault II would find its way to the Playstation in '96 along with Dark Forces.)

I wasnt sure about Sega or not. It was Ps1 now that I think about it. I played it at a friends house and he had both systems so I probably got confused. I do remember it being on a disc.

But the original Dark Forces is on Ps1?! OK Its mine! Now to find it.

Thanks guys!

Matthew if you have a decent PC you can check this out:

Dark Forces MOD for Jedi Outcast

An interested party deciced to take a stab at remaking Dark Forces using the Quake III engine and Jedi Outcast mod tools. Looks interesting to say the least.

I hate to be a spoil sport, but it kind of annoys me how they are slavishly recreating Dark Forces. If you have a better engine, use it! Take the storyline and locations from the original and update them. For a perfect example, see the remake of Dark Forces level 1 somebody did for the Jedi Knight engine. I believe it's called Rebel Agent. The author totally reimagined the imperial base, but he kept the feel of the original and it is so much better. It's probably the best user level I played for JK.

Here it is, if anyone wants to try it. Needs MOTS, though:

The whole point of the remake is to do just that, but only in a graphical sense I would imagine. Its great that there are folks out there willing to reimagine the original game and do what they want do with it but I'm sure there are an equal number of folks out there that would love to play the original game INTACT using an updated graphics engine. (I'm sure there are few Resident Evil and Metal Gear fans who may agree with the whole engine update thing). I do believe thats the audience the particular mod I posted is catering too (ie Matthew who was looking into rediscovering DF). No exactly sure why that would "annoy" you but to each their own I guess.
