What ping is too slow on Xblive?

My ping is 111ms on average. My upload speed is 85Kbs. I've been getting lag lately, and even denied from games because my speed is too slow. Do I have an inadequate ping or upload speed? Have other people been denied entry into a match because of their speed?

Where to begin?

I get the EXACT SAME numbers on my Xbox and my download will be around 530-560. I have a 768dl\128ul package from Verizon DSL and I get a steady 711\135 on dslreports.com. You'll notice I get a HIGHER upload speed than I'm supposed to, leading me to believe it's not my upload speed, per se. I honestly don't think it's a problem with my connection. I think the Xbox or more precisely the way it "sees" my (our) connection is the problem. Some people have surmised that some Xbox's might have faulty ethernet cards.
I was so upset after playing a LOT of laggy games on RTCW that I started playing around with my router (Linksys BEFSR41). I upgraded the firmware and put my Xbox in a DMZ, but it changed nothing! I even used the direct connection technique and the numbers got WORSE! My ul and dl speeds were SLOWER without my router involved! Figure that one out.

All the time. What kills me is that in order to get XBL you need broadband, I have broadband and my connection is too slow to play a game on-line? That's bullsh!t!!!

Just because a server is geographically closer doesn't always mean that you'll ping less to it.

My connection is good for every game but wolfenstein really. Only can host 8 on it with little lag problems. I was looking around the other day for DSl with high uploads. One place has it but its more then double what i pay for cable

True but you'll get better results because the data your uploading doesn't have to travel as far as it should, that's why people look out for close servers, so the data can bounce back and forth without potential delay. Pretty much why some sites are kind enough to provide mirrors for differnt areas and such.

Again, just because a server is closer geographically doesn't mean the data has to travel a shorter distance. In some cases, yes, you might get a faster connection, but in just as many instances that data from the server down the street might have to be routed through different states before it gets back to you.

One of the fastest connections you'll get is if said server is sitting on your network. For instance, Road Runner is your provider and you are looking for a RTCW server. The best server for you to get on is going to be one hosted by another person using the same provider, not by your neighbor with Verizon DSL.

I wish I knew what was up the the XB. I was getting so frustrated with RTCW when I had it, and there's no real way to know if the problem lies with you connection, the server, or something with the XB or software itself.

The thing that I find the silliest is these game's stupid Red, Yellow, Green system for reporting connection quality. I know it's trying to be easy to use, but at least have the option of giving me a number so I can figure out for myself how good or bad it is.

Anyway, I fiddled around with my connection and ran a bunch of tests using the XB dashboards test (which of course is supposed to be unreliable) and no matter what I did, I had pretty constant Upload (55kb) and pings. My DSL upload speed on the same night was over 400kb.

And in RCTW, it seemed like I'd find 3 or 4 "green" servers out of the whole bunch, half of which would be full, the other half I wasn't fast enough
