Poll: Who will be the next American Idol?

David Archuleta or David Cook?

We are down to the final two Idol contestants. The question now is who will take the title of the next American Idol?

Just for fun we are posing this very question to HTF members and giving the opportunity for them to vote on the person they feel will win it all!

Please take part in our poll and see if we are successful in predicting the way the rest of America will be voting.

Re: Poll: Who will be the next American Idol?

It is truly a battle between
  • mature, professional talent, versus
  • vocal control and teen popularity
It should be an interesting competition. My question won't be a matter of who wins -- I know who should win and would recognize the other result for what it is (a reflection of the myopic voting system). No, my question will be whether Cook will make another musical quantum leap, and further demonstrate how out-classed the rest of the competition has been this year.

Well, I'd like to think Cook will win this whole show, but honeslty, I think Archuleta will win because I think Idol has it set up so that he will win and they can make another pop puppet out of him for the big bucks.

Father: She didn't say, "I'm not in" She said, "We're not in" "We," you see, "we" Now what does "we" mean.

Bobby: I believe it's the plural form, indicating more than one. Do you want me to conjugate that for you, pop? Do you know what conjugate means, dad?

Archuleta. I think all the tweeny-bopper girls have faster dialing fingers and are more dedicated to him than any other group that might support Cook.

Regardless of who wins, they'll both make albums (as will the entire Top 5, probably). So the whole contest really becomes moot in the last few weeks.

I've been trying to make bets with people that David is going to win. No takers yet.

Looks like I had a tiebreaker vote here...Arch.

According to DialIdol, the #2 vote-getter this week would have to get over 80% of Syesha's vote to pull ahead of the #1 vote-getter this week. That seems mighty unlikely.

I hope it's Cook. Can't stand the other guy. Cook at least has a shot at a successful career, though I think some of those already eliminated have better potential than either of these guys.

You are, of course, making the assumption that DialIdol is in any way accurate.

Ever since Kristy Lee was eliminated even though she was considered safe within the margin of error, I have considered DialIdol broken.

There are three reasons for this:

1) The stats are very prone to the bias of the people who use the dialers, and they are not representative of the population at large.

2) Due to an increased capacity of phone lines, there are less busy signals. Tracking the busy signal is the core metric for DialIdol, but it just doesn't have the accuracy it used to have beacuse there are less busies -- less busies means smaller sampling, and that, of course, leads to miscounts.

3) DI does not take into consideration text votes. This is a huge variable because all carriers offer unlimited texting plans, and many of the tweener-teen voters text their votes. One grandma dialing 20 times to cast four votes for David Cook is easily offset by a 12 year old texting a hundred times. Since their parents sprung for unlimited texting (hell, it's cheaper than the overages), they can vote all they want (voting itself is free -- you only have to pay your carrier per conditions of your texting plan). Notice that viewership has decline greatly but voting itself is the same or higher. These unlimited plans went into effect the last two weeks of season 6.

There are a lot of things wrong with the show, and the fact that a core group of texters can swing the vote one way or the other is just another issue the producers have never addressed. Then again, it serves the geezers right for taking the show away from the target audience back in season 5.

Another vote for Ron.

No matter which "David" wins American Idol (I'm rooting for Archie) I predict that David A. will have the more successful singing career in the long run and he's the one I would be signing if I were in the "biz." Yes, he still has some growing up to do and that will come. But t
