Quarterlife - series premiere 2/26/08

From the guys who brought you "My So-called Life" and "thirty-something", comes the in-between years (the 20's) for 6 characters, 3 gals, and 3 guys, with inter-tangling complications and feelings between them. The main narrative angle is from the video-blogging by Dylan, and her comments of those in her current social circle and her workplace battles.

Originally streamed online, NBC is packaging 6 of the episodes into 1 commercial hour per airing.

I enjoyed it, but I think I'm smitten with Dylan, though she's got just a hint of Marty Feldman's eyes. I think I like the pacing of these collected episodes, and am looking forward to the new one.

Regular timeslot is on Sundays at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.

That was pretty weak. Sort of a poor man's 'What About Brian'. The actors seem decent enough, but they're not good enough to carry the horrendous writing. And how about making the blond (who is supposed to be beautiful)...uh, I don't know...beautiful?

I'm not that impressed, from the opening it feels like a reworking of the formula from their previous series. I agree the writing is pretty weak, and the situation is too contrived. While watching I'm constantly drawing comparisons to MSCL - the lead actress is the Angela type, somewhat withdrawn and introspective, there's the friend with the drinking problem, Brian reincarnated as the guy with the secret crush on his best friend's girlfriend...
I'm also not buying that the friends would be as forgiving about some of the comments made on the blog.
I wish Sony would just release the third season of Once & Again and get that done.
Maybe we'll see the 70something version where the lead character has altzheimers (sp?) and can't remember telling the same story over and over, her friend with the bladder control problem is in love with the janitor with ED...

It appears it'll be one-and-done for this show on NBC, low ratings really killed it, plus it's been aired before on MTV, and on myspace, so the audience wasn't going to grow much either.

That's something of an understatement: it was the lowest rated program in it's time slot for at least 20 years. I think for once, some internet hyperbole (abysmal!!! disastrous!!!) is justified, except it't not hypoerbole

Speaking of hyperbole, it was actually 17 years, not "at least 20."
