"Las Vegas" cancelled..

According to comingsoon.net Las Vegas has been cancelled. The 5th season ended on a cliff-hanger. Hopefully, NBC will allow a 2hr movie to properly end a show.

I probably won't miss the show that much, but if they don't allow some kind of resolution it will be a pitiful end to the series. BTW, I actually don't expect NBC to do anything to properly end the show. Oh, well...

I can't say that I am surprised by this announcement. The only times I watched the show this season is when it was aired in the FNL time-slot after that show aired it's last episode. Although, I thought Tom Selleck was a good addition/replacement in the series.

I haven't seen any of the episodes for the fifth season as I purchased the first four seasons on DVD but I'm surprised, after hearing from you all, that NBC ended the series on a cliffhanger. Most likely, NBC has the conclusion for the series already filmed and that they'll probably broadcast it as a tele-film, engaging it for a separate release apart from the fifth season DVD when it's announced.

Considering that the ratings for the fifth season dropped by double-digits, it's no surprise but it's NBC's fault for letting Nikki Cox go because of budget problems ... this is the first time I ever heard of a TV show dropping an actor/actress because of budget problems ... and the fact that other cast members have left the series was a grave disappointment. The departure of James Caan, Marsha Thomason, and a few others was when the series went downhill ... it's a shame that NBC couldn't keep these cast members on throughout the series. The first two seasons have been the best and the series will continue to last on DVD ...

Actually, I don't think this was originally planned as the finale - if it was, then Las Vegas was about the only show that wrote and shot its entire order before the strike. But then again, it might be; it had a somewhat short season last year, too.

And if it is... In that case, I wish the writers knew the meaning of the word "finale"; if you only got renewed with budget cuts by the skin of your teeth, you've really got no business ending the next season on a cliffhanger.

In all fairness, the writers/producer have gotten mixed messages from NBC, before the writers strike it was basicly a lock for a sixth season.
Fast forward to now and not only are they being told that the show is cancelled, the remaining 2-3 episodes out of the 22 episode order won't be produced either.

Ratings have no doubt taken a hit, but that's mostly due to moving the show to fridays (though losing James Caan and Nikki Cox has surely had some impact on ratings).
Even still it wasn't lousy in the ratings department, especially for a show airing on a bad time slot on the worst TV-day of the weak.
Friday Night Lights ratings are worse yet there still seems to be hope of a third season, sure it might be cheaper to produce but it doesn't rime well.

On one hand NBC say that they wan't to give closure to the fans of FNL by attempting to get a third season on the air, yet on the other hand they decide to cancel Las Vegas in the middle of a gigantic cliffhanger.
The least they could do is give a goahead for a wrap-up double episode/tv movie of Las Vegas, that's a fair compromise IMO, especially seeing how FNL might get a whole new season despite worse ratings.

And last but not least, NBC owe the millions of fans some closure after 5 seasons on the air.
While I respect that some people might feel that studios never owe us anything, I don't agree with their point of view.
Without us watching they wouldn't have made money on ads, overseas deals and merchandise for tv-shows, we are responsible for their income and as such I feel that their responsibility is doing their best by giving us a complete product.
If a show bombs I fully understand cancelling it without giving more episodes for real closure, but a successful long running show with (due to their own decisions) decreasing ratings deserve at lest a few episodes giving satisfying closure.

Just my 2c on the issue.

I bet he was fooling around with Cheryl Ladd and never got on the plane.

Would love to see some sort of closure instead of 'To Be Continued' like we saw on Friday night..

Being on the subject, why should I dedicate my time to any show if NBC is calling the shots?
If they just decide to cancel a show like this, what is there to say that a show like Heroes can't get the same treatment in the middle of a crucial (and unfinished) story line?
Evidently it doesn't really matter if they get all but written confirmation of another season, it might be canned anyway just on a whim with no advance warning or possibility to shoot a real ending.

To me this is just as bad as if ABC decides to cancel Lost a few episodes short of the "big reveal", while Las Vegas might be a goofy drama-esque show with comedic relief it still deserves to get closure.
And the fans really aren't asking for much really, with every other show people are asking for more seasons, LV fans wan't 2 or even just 1 more episode giving closure.
I still hope NBC will come to there senses and green light a real ending, but if not I'll probably skip their shows as I can't trust them not to do this again with another show.

Not to thread jack.....but I would rather have my favorite series run by NBC (there is a chance that they will find a way to conclude the series) as opposed to USA. I love Las Vegas, but my favorite show is the 4400 and they just shut it down right in the middle of everything. Like Heroes, that show needs an end and I will never again sign on to a show from USA because of their track record.

It's disappointing the way these shows have been treated by both NBC (Las Vegas) and USA (4400). I liked both shows, Las Vegas being my "guilty pleasure" show. I was actually really enjoying this season. For some reason, and I can't place it, I actually liked the changes made this year.

I never watched the show until the 5th season and started watching because of Tom Selleck joining it. So during the strike I borrowed the 1st 4 seasons. I thought the 1st, 2nd and 5th seasons were best. I thought it rolled downhill long before Selleck joined it and ya know, honestly I think the 5th season with Cooper was as good as it ever was. I'm really sorry they canceled it but NBC... They really don't seem to make very good decisions any more...
